Got Trees?
I still can't believe I am talking about snow in October. It's New England, so I guess we roll with the weather patterns.
A lot of calls today about downed trees, so I put together a brief question and answer. If you have specific needs concerning a claim please contact us at the office and we can assist you.
A tree fell in my yard, am I covered for that?
In order for there to be coverage the tree would have to damage a covered structure (house, fence, garage, shed). Your homeowners policy offers $500 for debris removal provided it damages a covered structure. If it simply falls in your yard, then there is no coverage.
Do I have coverage to replace a fallen tree?
There is no coverage in the homeowners policy. Trees are not covered for the peril of wind or weight of ice and snow.
My neighbor's tree fell in my yard, whose policy pays?
Each person is responsible for whatever part of the tree lies in their yard. Think of it this way, if you take a chain saw and cut the tree on the property line, whatever is in your yard is your responsibility - whatever is in your neighbor's yard is their responsibility.
A tree fell on my car. Is that an auto or homeowners loss?
All damage to vehicles is always an auto loss. The claim would be filed under your Comprehensive coverage and subject to your deductible.
My power went out; can I stay in a hotel?
Loss of power due to a wide spread power outage is not covered under a homeowners policy. If the power outage is specific to your home, ( i.e. tree fell and ripped the power lines off the house) then there is coverage to relocate due to a covered loss. |
