Videos Demonstrate Ease of Installation and Removal of PreSet Plus Hub Assemblies

There are a number of benefits for choosing the recently introduced PreSet Plus hub assemblies. But, one of the most important is the time it saves when installing or removing the hub. A brochure can only go so far in demonstrating this time-savings. Therefore, ConMet has produced two videos - one showing a side-by-side comparison of two hubs being installed and one showing the same two hubs being removed. Both videos are featured on the home page of ConMet's web site (www.conmet.com).

The installation video shows a PreSet Plus hub on the left and a conventional hub on the right. The difference between the two installations is striking. The PreSet Plus hub installs in just one minute and 33 seconds while the conventional hub installs in five minutes and 44 seconds. This time discrepancy is due mostly to PreSet Plus' new integrated spindle nut. This revolutionary nut shortens the installation process by eliminating the need for the adjustment required for typical multiple-piece nut configurations. Other key benefits include improving clamp load for safety, protecting the outboard bearing cone during installation and providing immediate wheel end identification.

As was the case with its predecessor, PreSet, PreSet Plus hub assemblies don't require the time-consuming and tedious task of manually adjusting bearings and measuring endplay. Using pre-adjusted bearing technology, ConMet achieves a more precise bearing setting by carefully controlling all critical tolerances in the hub, bearings and spacer. This level of accuracy and repeatability is nearly impossible to achieve in a shop environment using a manual bearing adjustment procedure. PreSet Plus hubs reduce the risk of either misalignment or damaged components during installation - two of the leading causes of premature seal failure.

The removal video compares a PreSet Plus hub on the left and a conventional hub on the right. The difference again is striking. The PreSet Plus hub is removed in less than half the time it takes to remove a hub with a conventional nut. The integrated nut also acts as a hub puller, enabling the technician to remove the PreSet Plus hub assembly in just over a minute.

Unlike unitized hubs, PreSet Plus hubs are fully serviceable in the field using conventional, readily available parts. No special tools, equipment or procedures are required.
