Thomas Spatafora Presents to The New York Society of Architects
Spring 2010 - Thomas Spatafora, Senior Vice President for Posillico spoke at the New York Society of Architects about remediation strategies and avoiding cost increases and schedule upsets on Brownsfield projects. During Mr. Spatafora's presentation he highlighted Posillico's experience in environmental remediation which comes from our comprehensive understanding of construction, drilling, foundations, support of excavations, roadways and bridges. This understanding makes it possible to use best practices for a sustainable development design and implementation. He explained that Posillico begins the project flow by coordinating concept and design strategies along with geotechnical and structural engineering. It is important to be proactive and to have a plan in place to monitor and mitigate. High quality workers and well controlled site operations are key to the success of the plan. Posillico believes it is important to involve and educate the surrounding community early on in the process. Posillico has a great deal of experience in engaging in this productive dialog. Mr. Spatafora further emphasized the importance of selecting the right project management and contracting team as well as coordinating design efforts to develop an effective Remedial Action Work Plan (RAWP), Soil Management Plan (SMP), and coordinating these elements with the desired development program. Posillico's contract and development experience enable key personnel to play an important role in this coordinated design and remediation approach. Integrating necessary legal counsel and technical knowledge of codes, laws and other local constraints are also key to maintaining project schedules and budgets.
Posillico is considered a leader in Brownsfield development in the metropolitan area as well as an expert in site remediation. Over the past 20 years Posillico Environmental has cleaned up some of the most challenging contaminated properties in New York and New Jersey.
