The Sholem Chorus with Workmen's Circle chorus members is once again preparing for our community's Kol Nidre observance, which will be held this year on Tuesday evening, September 25, 2012, at the Musician's Union hall in Hollywood. As in past years, the musical aspect of the program will be co-directed by Scott Wilkinson and Joanna Cazden. Repertoire is in English and Yiddish, an evolving mix of songs from previous years, plus something new. Rehearsals are Tuesday nights at the Workmen's Circle. For three generations, unaffiliated, progressive, secular Jews have found a home in the Sholem Community of Los Angeles. Sholem's Sunday school will begin another school year on September 9, 2012 at 10 am with classes (for students aged 5 to 14, and a toddler program), school registration, and a discussion about progressive Jewish values, our cultural heritage, and education. Beginning: Learn the alef-bais (Yiddish alphabet), vocabulary and the basics of Yiddish language - for those with little or no background.
Mondays, 5:00-6:00 pm
$160 for members of Arbeter Ring, $225 for non-members
Intermediate: for those with some background or
who have taken the Beginning Yiddish class.
Mondays, 6:00-7:30 pm
Class meets for 18 weeks

This program of beautiful instrumental and choral music, readings in English, Yiddish, and Hebrew, communal singing, poetry and reflection is an opportunity to renew ourselves and our community for the new year.

Every Monday at 2 pm Thanks to your attendance, her Conversational Yiddish group is thriving with world-recognized Yiddish teacher, scholar, translator and raconteuse Hadasa Cytrynowicz. Originally from Lodz, and later a long-time resident of Brazil, Hadasa brings a wealth of experience and stories, songs, proverbs and sayings, poetry and interesting topics for discussion to her group. Each session is an hour and 15 minutes. Admission is by voluntary donation.
Keep your Yiddish kite flying by attending this group! All levels of Yiddish are welcome. Kumt arayn!
