Member Meeting Recap
| Thank you to everyone who attended our member meeting last Sunday July 22nd. We heard overwhelming support for a merger with the Sholem Community from those who attended as well as those who voted via email and mail. With the AR/WC "family" and the Sholem "family" having approved of our engagement, we now have many months of sorting out the details between the two groups, as well as with the National Workmen's Circle before a full "marriage" may take place.
Thank you for giving your feedback on this important decision, we are hopeful that our groups can agree upon the crucial details that will allow for a full merger to occur. We will update you as we know more.

August 12, Soviet Yiddish Writers Commemoration
| |
VOICES FROM THE SILENCE:
CELEBRATING YIDDISH CREATIVITY IN THE (FORMER) SOVIET UNION
AUGUST 12, 5 pm
Special screening of the rarely seen silent film masterpiece,
"Jewish Luck" ("Yidishe Glik")
Starring the great Shloyme Mikhoels
introduced by NPR and LA Times film critic Kenneth Turan
Based on the Sholem Aleichem classic satire, "Adventures of Menachem Mendl".
With text by Isaak Babel. Directed by the famous Russian film directorAlexander Granovsky. (90 min., with English translation)
Organized by CIYCL, Workmen's Circle, Yiddishkayt LA and co-sponsored by several local Jewish organizations, this program commemorates the 60th anniversary of the murder by the USSR of 13 foremost Yiddish writers and intellectuals (August 1952).
This amazing film not only features the work of the most popular Yiddish author of that time and today (Sholem Aleichem), but also manages to poke fun at shadkhns (matchmakers), insurance salesmen, Czarist Russia, and capitalism, while showing some remarkable images of Moscow and shtetl life, and dream imagery you will never forget.
Admission: Free

The Sholem Chorus is once again preparing for our community's Kol Nidre observance, which will be held this year on Tuesday evening September 25, 2012, at the Musician's Union hall in Hollywood. As in past years, the musical aspect of the program will be co-directed by Scott Wilkinson and Joanna Cazden. Yitzhak Perlman Concert at Hollywood Bowl
| Workmen's Circle member Steve Klein is planning a function with his temple to hear the greatest living violinist, Yitzhak Perlman, at the Hollywood Bowl on Thursday, September 13th. The tickets are $40 each. It will be a memorable night to hear another fellow Jew in the great lineage of Jewish violinists play some of the world's most beautiful music under the stars.
If you would like to attend, let us know as soon as possible, so Steve can let the ticket office know how many tickets to purchase.
The seats are well-centered and at the low level of the 'upper deck' and not the reserve boxes. The concert program and other information is available on the Hollywood Bowl website, www.HollywoodBowl.com. If you want to charge your tickets, contact office@templbd.com or email SoCal Arbeter Ring director Kalil at director@circlesocal.org and he will put you in touch with Steve Klein.
