10'¢ Cinema Slam 4-17-12 - Thank you/Recap
|
The 2nd ever 10'¢ Cinema Slam was hosted on 4-17-12 at the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring. The audience in attendance was both diverse in age-range and background.
Thank you to everyone who made it to see the screening of member Gerry Gerash's "Gay Revolt At Denver City Council, October 23, 1973, and How It Changed Our World". At the 10 cent suggested donation rate, we had 160 people at the event... OK, more like 30 people, but we still appreciate the generosity! $16 means more snacks for the next Cinema Slam.
Special appreciate goes to guest performer, Terry Baum, who read an excerpt from one of her fabulous plays. It was a treat to have her in town visiting from San Francisco. You can find out more information about Terry Baum's work by clicking this link.
For more information about Gerry Gerash's film, please click this link.
You can read about the Cinema Slam's origins and see footage from the first one by clicking here.
...Stay tuned for a short video of the Q+A and open mic performance and let us know if you would like to be on the Cinema Slam mailing list for future events!

LIMITED TIME OFFER! Sale of Cemetery Plots!!

Limited Time Offer!
Sale of Cemetery Plots to Arbeter Ring Members!
To our members (and prospective members):
One of the historic benefits Arbeter Ring has always offered to our members is reasonably-priced cemetery plots. We have several remaining plots in the beautiful Mount Shalom South section at Eden Memorial Park which we are offering to our members at well below market rate. This section is sold out, but if plots were available there or in comparable sections, they would go for upwards of $9000 each. We are offering these plots to our members at the very attractive price of $6500, but only until Rosh Hashone this fall, that is, for about six months, or as long as they last. At that point, if we have any left, we will open up sales to the general public, and we are confident they will sell quickly. This will be your last opportunity to purchase plots from us, because we do not expect to ever make this benefit available again in Southern California. Please contact our office at 310.552.2007 for further details.

ROMEO AND JULIET IN YIDDISH Released by Nancy Fishman Film Releasing Directed, Written, Produced and Starring Eve Annenberg "There's been nothing like Eve Annenberg's rambunctious ROMEO AND JULIET IN YIDDISH since 1950 - or perhaps ever. Attitudinous, unique, high-concept hustle...tender and funny." --J. Hoberman, The Village Voice
Played in approximately fifty percent of absolutely colloquial/contemporary 'street Yiddish' by mostly first time, charismatic and cameragenic ex-Satmer twenty-somethings, this "Romeo" is both a re-telling and a reverie within a movie highlighting the emotional conflicts between Jews from the Ultra Orthodoxy and Secular. It is the first non-religiously produced film to sport this much Yiddish in more than fifty years and perhaps closer to seventy. The film is an unadulterated love song to Jewish humor, music, sensuality and the tradition of no-holds-barred debate. Note: there are subtitles! Fluency not required!!
