LIMITED TIME OFFER! Sale of Cemetery Plots!!
|
Limited Time Offer!
Sale of Cemetery Plots to Arbeter Ring Members!
To our members (and prospective members):
One of the historic benefits Arbeter Ring has always offered to our members is reasonably-priced cemetery plots. We have several remaining plots in the beautiful Mount Shalom South section at Eden Memorial Park which we are offering to our members at well below market rate. This section is sold out, but if plots were available there or in comparable sections, they would go for upwards of $9000 each. We are offering these plots to our members at the very attractive price of $6500, but only until Rosh Hashone this fall, that is, for about six months, or as long as they last. At that point, if we have any left, we will open up sales to the general public, and we are confident they will sell quickly. This will be your last opportunity to purchase plots from us, because we do not expect to ever make this benefit available again in Southern California. Please contact our office at 310.552.2007 for further details.

FOOD JUSTICE SEDER - Sunday April 8th, 2012
|
Join us for our FOOD JUSTICE SEDER
Sunday April 8th, 2012
Our annual Arbeter Ring Seder is a beautiful celebration of our heritage and culture. We sing of the hidden Jews of Spain during the Inquisition, the martyrs and heroes of the ghettos of Poland, the Jews of Soviet Russia, the seekers of global peace and all champions of liberation and workers' rights. This year's theme, Food Justice, focuses our concern on the global struggle for safe, abundant, healthy and affordable sustenance for all the world's people.
We are also asking for donations of non-perishable food items for SOVA, our local food bank!

SEDER * --- Eat a Meal & Support the Arts!
|
SEDER* A meal-based initiative committed to creating a path for rethinking how contemporary Jewish art and culture is financed and experienced communally.
THURSDAY MARCH 29, 7-9 PM @ WORKMEN'S CIRCLE / ARBETER RING
RSVP TO: SEDERLOSANGELES@GMAIL.COM *This meal-based initiative allows individuals from the community to become patrons of local Jewish artists. In exchange for a modest cash donation ($18), guests enjoy a vegetarian locally sourced dinner and they get a ballot. During the dinner, artists who've submitted project proposals will make brief presentations. At the end of the dinner, all guests vote on the project they like the best. The artist whose proposal receives the most votes gets the donation money collected at the door. _____

Praise for Yiddishkeit:"The book is about what Neal Gabler in his introduction labels 'Jewish sensibility.' It pervades this volume, which he acknowledges is messy; he writes: 'You really can't define Yiddishkeit neatly in words or pictures. You sort of have to feel it by wading into it.' The book does this with gusto." -New York Times "a postvernacular tour de force" -The Forward *edited by WC District Committee member Hershl Hartman, along with Harvey Pekar and Paul Buhle

Schund! at the Israel Film Festival
Yiddishkayt presents SCHUND!
Miss it on the 17th? No worries! Catch Schund! again:
Israel Film Festival Thursday, March 22 (7:15PM) Laemmle Music Hall ~ 9036 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills 90211
SCHUND!, a clever and heartfelt mockumentary, is a kind of Yiddish theatrical Forrest Gump, "introducing" a renowned Yiddish actor who disappeared under criminal circumstances. Left in his wake are debts, rumors, and a mysterious inscription on the door of his home reading "schund." The film's action takes place 25 years after the actor's disappearance as the young filmmaker struggles to pick up his trail.

New Jerusalem: The Interrogation of Baruch De Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation - Amsterdam, July 27, 1656
New Jerusalem is an intelligent, thought-provoking drama by acclaimed playwright David Ives, best known for his brilliant award-winning comedy, All In The Timing and his current dramatic hit on Broadway, Venus In Furs.
"This thoughtful work paints the conflict between Spinoza's radical ideas and the oppressive religious doctrines of his times in an entertaining, highly accessible way. An engrossing historical drama."

Camp Gilboa - Enroll now for July 1st Camp Sessions
|
Camp Gilboa
Registration is open now for camp sessions starting July 1.
Imagine a group of kids that play together, learn from each other, and share our progressive values and love of Jewish Culture.
At Camp Gilboa all the fun outdoor activities found at other camps are embedded in a kibbutz style cooperative living environment that also challenges their minds and feeds their souls. Children go there for the kayaking, hiking, swimming and other summer activities. Parents and grandparents send them because the camp de-emphasizes consumerism and encourages campers to dream big about a just world where they can make a difference.
Parents and grandparents can learn more about this unique opportunity for our children by calling 323-653-6772, reading the brochure or visiting www.campgilboa.org. If you want to learn more about the camp from an Arbeter Ring parent, email Steve at ska2@columbia.edu. Click here to download the brochure
