Classes resume FEB. 28 Yiddish Classes Beginning: 5:30-6:30 pm ($160 for 18 wks for AR members, $225 for non-members) Intermediate: 6:30-8 pm ($225 for 18 wks for AR members, $300 for non-members) Advanced: 8-9:30 pm ($225 for 18 wks for AR members, $300 for non-members) Late enrollees will be charged pro rata.-------------------------------- Voices of Conscience Chorus: Feb. 28 @ 7:30 pm The chorus will perform in Yiddish and English for 2 concerts in March.

Special guest Henry Slucki on Feb. 28. All Yiddish speakers and students are invited to attend and hear about Henry Slucki's life as a child in Europe during the Holocaust. Admission is by voluntary donation.
Hadasa is a hit! Thanks to your attendance, her Conversational Yiddish group is thriving. We've gotten people's Yiddish speaking muscles flexing with world- recognized Yiddish teacher, scholar, translator and raconteuse Hadasa Cytrynowicz. Originally from Lodz, and later a long-time resident of Brazil, Hadasa brings a wealth of experience and stories, songs, proverbs and sayings, poetry and interesting topics for discussion to her group. Each session is an hour and 15 minutes.

Judaism 101: A (respectful) Secular View of traditions, laws, customs and practices What to wear, what to eat-how to woo, whom to greet: Jewish fundamentalism-how is it different from others? Or is it? Taboos and how they grew. Why are peyes (sidelocks) "weird," but yarmulkes (kipot) are "cool"? Are progressive congregations really free of gender bias? And what about tikun olam? PLUS: The socio-political and socio-geographic origins of the Hebrew Bible.

Help guide a progressive, secular Jewish organization
in its second century!
Director (half-time to start) is sought by the Southern California Arbeter Ring/Workmen's Circle, organizing for social justice and Jewish, especially Yiddish, culture for over a century. Successful applicant will have the backing and support of an active governing committee in developing programming and fundraising. Neither Jewish background nor Yiddish knowledge required, though welcomed.
Director will coordinate existing programs and help to develop new ones, supervise rental and maintenance of our building, among other managing duties. Arbeter Ring cosponsors with the Sholem Community a 5-session course this year with 2 sessions remaining--a respectful secular view of Jewish traditions, laws, customs and practices.
Feb 27: What to wear, what to eat, how to woo, whom to greet Mar 27: Can Secular Jewishness be spiritual? If so, how? All sessions begin at 10:15 a on Sundays, and are held at Westside Neighborhood School, 5401 Beethoven St, Los Angeles (W of 405, N of Jefferson Bl) Single sessions, $5 for Sholem or AR members, $15 for non-members.

Fun for all ages, all levels of klezmer music and Yiddish (including none), all backgrounds! Two workshops sessions, followed by Klezmer Music & Dance Party 4:30-5:30, with internationally known klezmer group, Veretski Pass, who are making their Sonoma County debut.
