Rosh Hashone, Thur Sep 9 at 11 am
Arbeter Ring joins with our friends in the Sholem Community for a different kind of observance to inaugurate the New Year 5771. We meet at Rancho Park-Cheviot Hills Picnic Area #1, 2551 Motor Ave, LA (1 block S of Pico), for a family-oriented celebration with readings and songs. Bring a picnic for your family and dessert to share. We will provide apples and honey. There is no charge for this event. If you're uncomfortable on a blanket or the grass, we will have a few benches and chairs but if you wish you may bring your own beach chair.

Kol Nidre, Fri Sep 17

Arbeter Ring again cosponsors this year's Kol Nidre program with the Sholem Community, which will be held on Sep 17, at the Musicians Union Hall, 817 N Vine St in Hollywood.  The response to last year's program was so wonderful and we know that this year's program will be outstanding also. It's a formal, progressive, and inspirational program with readings, songs, and music. For ticket reservations please go to the Sholem website: www.sholem.org

As customary, Hershl Hartman will read the names of those we have lost during the last year. In addition, we are going to have an "In Memoriam" page in the program, on which we will list names of all those loved ones we would like to remember.  If you would like to have them listed, please copy or complete the bottom of this page and mail as instructed, no later than Sep 8, along with a check for $10 for each name.

George Mann Returning Fri Oct 1!
Arbeter Ring joins with Veterans for Peace and the California Nurses Assn in sponsoring an evening of progressive topical songs by nationally known singer and recording artist George Mann. We begin at 6:30 pm with a potluck dinner (bring drinks, entrees, or desserts) and the music begins at 7:30. George sings of labor and activism, songs of hope, healing, struggle and triumph. His new CD "Until You Come Home" features such folk legends as Tom Paxton, Utah Phillips, Holly Near, Magpie, John Gorka and others, with songs about the experiences of war and of returning home, recognizing the sacrifices our service members and their families have made. Concert admission $5-10, no one turned away! Please let us know if you plan to attend! RSVP to 310.552.2007! At our Arbeter Ring Center.

No session on Labor Day!
Hadasa is a hit! Thanks to your attendance, her Conversational Yiddish group is thriving. We've gotten people's Yiddish speaking muscles flexing with world-recognized Yiddish teacher, scholar, translator and raconteuse Hadasa Cytrynowicz. Originally from Lodz, and later a long-time resident of Brazil, Hadasa brings a wealth of experience and stories, songs, proverbs and sayings, poetry and interesting topics for discussion to her group. Each session is an hour and 15 minutes.

Keep your Yiddish kite flying by attending this group! Admission is by voluntary donation. All levels of Yiddish are welcome. Kumt arayn! Far vos nisht?
