Planning for the Future... Final meeting Sat Jul 24 at 2 p! Our Arbeter Ring faces a time of
transition and we call upon our members in good standing to help us plan the future of our organization. A lively group has attended our first three gatherings and we thank them for their commitment and interest.
These are some of the issues we'd like to explore with your input: -Who are we as a secular Jewish community and who do we want to become? (Core
values, cultural identity, political identity.) -What can the Arbeter Ring improve upon? What changes would you like to see? -How do we remain a vibrant, sustainable force in the 21st century? -How can we add value to your life?
Join in and be part of this dynamic process. Your membership in Workmen's Circle Arbeter Ring Branch 1016 or 1089 of our
National Organization must be current. Our last remaining date is --Sat Jul 24 at 2 pm.
We'll
present our findings to all members at a SoCal Brunch Meeting on Sunday, August 29 at 11 am.
Remember, this is your Arbeter Ring. Now's the time to be a leader. Let's
explore our brave new future together. A sheynem un hartsikn dank! Thank you very much! |

Soviet Yiddish Writers Program Sun Aug 15, 4 p
| This year's Soviet Yiddish Writers program, conducted in memory of the Yiddish poets, writers and communal leaders liquidated by the Soviet regime on August 12, 1952, will take place at Arbeter Ring on Sun, Aug 15 at 4 p. This unique program focuses on poets Shike Driz and Itsik Fefer, and on musical settings of their work by L.A. composer Joseph Schrogin, whose family will be in attendance. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Lilke and Szlama Majzner Memorial Fund
for Yiddish Culture, our choruses will premiere new choral arrangements of Schrogin's songs. Cosponsors with Arbeter Ring include L.A. Yiddish Culture Club, Yiddishkayt L.A., Secular Jewish Humanists of L.A., Sholem Community, CIYCL and Ameinu.
If you are interested in performing with us for this historic occasion, please let us know. You do not have to know or read Yiddish, but you should be able to read music and hold your own in your voice part in a three- or four-part choral arrangement. There are only a few rehearsals between now and the concert, so it is a very limited commitment (please plan on attending all of them, though). Rehearsals are Mon nights from 7:30-9:30 p: Jul 26, Aug 9, then the performance on Aug 15.

Speak Yiddish! Why Not? | |
Every Monday at 2 p Hadasa is a hit! Thanks to your attendance, we're continuing her Conversational Yiddish group. We've gotten people's Yiddish speaking muscles flexing with world-recognized Yiddish teacher, scholar, translator and raconteuse Hadasa Cytrynowicz. Originally from Lodz, and later a long-time resident of Brazil, Hadasa brings a wealth of experience and stories, songs, proverbs and sayings, poetry and interesting topics for discussion to her group. Each session is an hour and 15 minutes.
Keep your Yiddish kite flying by attending this group! Admission is by voluntary donation. All levels of Yiddish are welcome. Kumt arayn! Far vos nisht?
