In A More Beautiful World Gallery
House of Pleasures: Paintings by Eliza M. Schmid
Now through April 30
House of Pleasures

Eliza Schmid, a classically trained psychoanalyst, spins stories in her paintings that are whimsical, tragicomical and grotesque, often about abnormal, surrealist mental conditions that are yet tellingly emblematic of our so-called "normal" times. Her previous show several years ago was one of the most popular ever in our gallery. Don't miss this show of new work, which brings in fresh elements of witchcraft and travel. Call before coming just to be sure we're here!

quilt Win "The Revolution is Only a T-Shirt Away" Quilt!

Thank you, Milan, and our donor!

Losers
Saturday, April 24 at 8 pm
A Staged Reading of a new play by Charles Marowitz

at: 1525 S. Robertson Blvd.
Los Angeles, California 90035

A couple of years ago, Arbeter Ring presented a reading of Silent Partners by the same playwright, a fascinating play about the relationship between Bertolt Brecht and Eric Bentley. Losers is very different! Somewhat inspired by G.K. Chesterton's remark, "The artistic temperament is a disease that affects amateurs," Losers deals with the kind of self-delusion that affects many "artistic types"-perhaps more so in Los Angeles than in any other city in America. It makes us painfully consider the possibility that the reason we do not achieve fame and fortune as actors, writers or in related arts is that we have deluded ourselves into believing we are more gifted than we really are-a difficult conclusion to recognize or accept. Losers follows the efforts of one such person to achieve the rewards to which he believes he is entitled-no matter how great the rebuffs he receives along the way.

Charles Marowitz is as prolific a playwright as he is a director. He collaborated with Peter Brook at the Royal Shakespeare Company in London and his play Sherlock's Last Case was presented on Broadway with Frank Langella in the lead role. It has recently been contracted for production in the UK this coming fall. An ensemble of eight first-class professional actors have been brought together for this presentation directed by the author. The reading will be followed by an open discussion with the members of the audience. Admission will be $10 at the door. For further information please call 310.552.2007, or email us at circle@circlesocal.org. Light refreshments.
