Gumerman Presents Renewables Work to Committees in Florida Senate, House
Etan Gumerman, senior policy analyst at the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, recently presented the findings of a study on renewable energy development in the South to committees in the Florida House and Senate. The presentations were based on the report Renewable Energy in the South, which shows the South has the potential to produce as much as 30 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Watch the video of his Senate presentation.
U.S. Energy, Environment Official to Join Duke Faculty
William Pizer, a top U.S. Treasury Department official whose departure from the Obama Administration was announced last week, has accepted a joint appointment to the faculty of the Sanford School of Public Policy and the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions.
First Issue of Greenhouse-Gas-Focused Journal Features Staff
A paper by researchers at the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions is featured in the inaugural issue of the journal Greenhouse Gas Measurement & Management. The article assesses the benefits and challenges associated with both absolute-level and emission-intensity-based greenhouse gas crediting systems.
Holman Appears on Energy Connections Television Program
Bill Holman, director of state policy at the Nicholas Institute, recently appeared on the television program "Energy Connections." During the hour-long broadcast, viewers had the chance to ask questions as Holman and two other guests discussed energy issues in North Carolina. Watch the video
Institute Participates in EPA Meeting on Greenhouse Gas Regulations

Nicholas Institute Director Tim Profeta was among 15 individuals, selected for their expertise in the Clean Air Act standard-setting process, to participate in a special listening session hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. One of five convened during February and March, it was designed to collect feedback from key stakeholders and the public before the EPA sets new greenhouse gas emissions standards for fossil-fuel-fired power plants and petroleum refineries.

Overview on Creating Sustainable Communities in the Southeast Available

The Southeast Climate Resource Center at Duke's Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions has compiled a list of 10 ways local governments in the southeastern United States are approaching sustainability.

Living on Earth: Can REDD Work for the Amazon?

The Nicholas Institute's Brian Murray was a guest on the latest edition of the radio program, "Living on Earth." During the broadcast, Murray talked about financing for REDD, or Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, and the Amazon drought.
