Prez Says...
by George B. Richardson, Palo Alto, President, CP Cal

As I sit down to jot down some thoughts about what's going on in our California Collaborative community, I am reminded that we have the rare concurrence of the Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day. Happy 4707! What could be a better time for New Year's resolutions! January is behind us, and was way too hectic, anyway. February is a short month, so we get through that first month of resolutions more quickly, and we're right around the corner from CP Cal's own annual Celebration! May the year of the Tiger bring you more opportunities to assist those with difficult disputes to resolve them with respect and dignity.

CP Cal Celebration V  - Building Bridges:
Collaborative Practice in Challenging Times
 by David Fink
SaveTheDateThe final touches are being put on the program for our Fifth Annual CP Cal Celebration. This year's theme is "Building Bridges: Collaborative Practice in Challenging Times." The conference will be held at the Hotel Nikko, in the heart of San Francisco's dynamic Union Square area. We have kept the registration fee the same as last year, and we arranged a phenomenal rate of $189 per night to make the Celebration as affordable as possible for everyone. The hotel is walking distance from many of "The City's" attractions, and is easily accessed by public transportation (BART) from the San Francisco and Oakland airports - no rental car required!

Uniform Collaborative Law Act - Where Do We Go?
by Kathleen M. O'Connor

The Uniform Collaborative Law Act (UCLA), scheduled for endorsement by the ABA House of Delegates at the Mid-Year Meeting in Orlando, Florida on February 8, 2010, was abruptly withdrawn by the Uniform Law Commission. An endorsement would have sanctioned the introduction of the Act to state legislatures by the Uniform Law Commissioners of each state. Margaret Anderson, Esq. (CCRE) organized contact with California ABA Delegates. California endorsement was not the problem.

CP Cal Public Education Committee
by Leslee Newman

Educating the public and other professionals about Collaborative Practice is the task of the CP Cal Public Education Committee (PEC) chaired by Len Weiler for the Northern California Public Education Committee (Nor Cal PEC) and by Leslee Newman for the Southern California Public Education Committee (So Cal PEC). The regional PECs are made up of representatives from multiple practice groups in each region, working together on common public education initiatives.

by Kim Davidson, Chair

The Nominating Committee has been convened and will be putting together a slate for the election to be held at the Delegates' meeting on Sunday, April 25, 2010, in San Francisco (immediately after Celebration).

The Delegates will receive written notice of the proposed slate at least 30 days in advance of the election date.

Pursuant to our Bylaws, the nominating committee will consist of five members; two of those must be current or former board members and at least two delegates must be from the membership at large.

Collaborative Practice California is a statewide organization of Collaborative Practice groups.  We are an interdisciplinary volunteer organization; for details on how you can become involved in CP Cal, see your local Delegate.

CP Cal Website

The year-long process of re-vamping the CP Cal site is nearly completed. We have new graphics which are representational of California. If anyone has access to some excellent quality jpeg photos that would be representational of other parts of California, please send one or two.

We have expanded the focus to include Civil areas of CP and we have added a Resources page. The "members only" section is in need of protocols from our member groups. I'd also like to add any marketing materials that practice groups have developed. This is a great resource for sharing information.

Please check the www.cpcal.com website for information about CP Cal Celebration V and to register for the conference

Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group Takes CP to the Movies!

The Sacramento Collaborative Practice Group (SCPG) began running 15-second Collaborative Practice ads in the three theater complexes on Thanksgiving weekend. The ads run for 12 weeks leading up to the Academy Awards.

For the pilot program, we selected a 14-screen Regal/UA complex in Roseville and two Century complexes (7-screens/16-screens) in Sacramento. Average combined monthly attendance for the three complexes is 181,243 patrons.

The ads will play on all screens for all movies and the ad will run a minimum of once before each movie. If they have not sold all of the ad space, the ad could run multiple times each movie.
