Greetings!

Summer's here, and it's a great time to take in some rays of sun for free Vitamin D synthesis in your body.  Approximately 5-30 minutes of sun exposure twice a week between 10 am and 3 pm (Google the National Institutes of Health Fact Sheet) should be sufficient. For more info on Vitamin D, check out "Syl's Health Tips" below.

SYL'S HEALTH TIPS:
Vitamin D promotes calcium and phosphate absorption in the gut to promote bone growth, modulates neuromuscular, immune function and reduces inflammation.  While on the topic of bone growth; did you know that a natural way of preventing osteoporosis is by doing weight-bearing exercises?  Have you ever seen old runners who have a caved in chest?  It's a classic example of lack of upper body weight-bearing exercises.

But, don't discount the benefits of running or aerobic exercises!  An article in the New York Times (3/23/10) written by Gretchen Reynolds titled "Exercise keeps cells younger; study suggests" which compared young versus middle-aged (50 & over) professional runners and their sedentary counterparts.  A 2009 Nobel Prize winning discovery of telomeres-tiny caps on the end of DNA strands found that when cells divide and replicate DNA, the telomere cap is snipped.  If the cap becomes too short, the cell either dies or enters a suspended state; so it's a reliable marker of cell age.  The middle-aged runners' telomere loss was 25% versus the sedentary folks' which was 60% (in relation to the young professional runners whose telomeres were no different from their slothful counterparts).  Regular exercise both weight-bearing and aerobic points to the way to keep youthful.

Pizza Meal Improvements:
Our Pizza Meal includes 6 rectangular Pizza Crusts, and in addition to the Pesto, Sun-Dried Tomato Marinara, Greek Olives and Avocado, we've added shredded Organic Curly Kale and Asparagus topping for a crunch.  We've changed or replaced several meals around so find the updated menu on our Website while we work on updating our Brochure.

Mila Picture

Mila (www.Lifemax.com) is a proprietary blend of Chia Seeds containing the highest amount of Omega Fatty-3 Acids, Proteins, Fiber, etc.  Omega Fatty-3 Acids are essential for a proper balance in your digestive system and you cannot take too much of it.  Omega Fatty-3 Acids are anti-inflammatory and this in itself is a good reason to take it.  Inflammation has been found to cause Alzheimer's, cancer, heart problems, diabetes, the list is too long to name here.
We're taking it daily here at Licious Dishes and experimenting with it in soups, sauces, desserts.
   I recommend it highly.
