Feature Article Congratulations Class of 2012!
Fairmont Prep's 158 seniors graduated yesterday evening in a beautiful ceremony in Historic Anaheim's Pearson Park. 100% of grads will be heading to college this fall, following a knock-out college acceptance season where seniors gained admission to over 200 different colleges and universities in 32 states (and the District of Columbia) and 5 countries. The nation's top colleges and universities acknowledged their merit by awarding the Class of 2012 with over $2.8 million in renewable funding and scholarships-an average of $17,722 per student per year. Particularly noteworthy in this year's graduating class are Fairmont's fine and performing arts grads who boast admissions to some of the finest conservatories in the country including the Rhode Island School of Design, the Pratt Institute, The School of Visual Arts, and Parsons School for Design. Mable seventh graders, along with Anaheim Hills and Edgewood seventh graders, trekked through northern Arizona during the week of May 14-18. When they met early Monday morning, the sleepy students did not realize they were in for a week of a once in a lifetime experience. However, all changed when they landed in Phoenix and met their guide for the week. The students then realized they were setting off on a
fun-filled, fantastic week.
Every day, students participated in physical activities ranging from hiking to swimming. Though the weather was hot, the students tackled all the activities with enthusiasm. They enjoyed hiking up Bell Rock in Sedona and mountain biking around its perimeter. To cool off, students then slid down a slick natural water chute and sunned along Slide Rock. On Wednesday, seventh graders were part of the 1% of visitors to the Grand Canyon that hiked down below the rim. Students were in awe of this natural wonder. Some remarked that this majestic sight didn't even look real. In addition to all of the daytime activities, students were more than excited to rock climb, star gaze, and swim at the indoor Aquaplex. The exhilarating trip ended with an afternoon at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. And though they were excited to see their parents upon their return home, students wished they could have another week to enjoy the great outdoors!
