Red Ribbon Week
A giant red ribbon once again hung around Mable's iconic fig tree to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Student representatives from grades one through sixth tied the ribbon on Monday, and the first through fourth grade classes decorated their doors with anti-drug slogans throughout the week. A sea of red appeared at Wednesday's flag salute as the children had free dress to wear red clothing.
Red Ribbon Week was established in 1985 to honor Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique "KiKi" Camarena, who lost his life fighting to end Southern California's drug problem. During the week of October 18th, children across the nation made their unified pledge to stay off drugs. |

Mable's Physical Education and Sports Programs
Mable Campus athletics have entered full swing, and the Panthers continue to excel. The girl's 5th / 6th grade volleyball team is 2-0, while the boy's football team holds a 1-0 record. Our elementary athletes participate in a developmental league, which serves as a stepping stone for our junior high league. Currently the Junior High teams are midway through their season and will be preparing for play-offs at the beginning of November.
The Junior High and Elementary teams both strive for excellence on and off the field. Our student athletes must maintain their high level of academic excellence and uphold proper behavior around campus. This week, we held our first pep rally to honor our student athletes. The rally featured the annual football toss pairing one teacher and two students from each grade level. Congratulations to the 2nd grade team-comprised of Mrs. Quintana, Kimi Kishimoto and Justin Lee-for winning this year's toss.
Whether our students participate in team sports or not, all develop important physical talents through our physical education program. The girls are currently learning volleyball techniques in P.E. while the boys are finishing their football skills unit. We also started a health program for our 6th grade students. Some of the areas that will be discussed and covered include proper health and wellness, stress management, self-esteem, and proper nutrition and exercise. We are proud to offer physical education every day at Fairmont, especially when so many other schools have reduced or cut their programs. Lastly, we encourage all students to continue striving for excellence and to stay fit. We wish them good luck in working towards our 30-mile running club, and we will honor those students who have been a positive role model on and off the court with the Panther of the Month Award.

Fairmont Preparatory Academy Peer-to-Peer Day
Tuesday, November 2nd Fairmont Preparatory Campus, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm 2200 W. Sequoia Ave., Anaheim, CA
On the morning of November 2nd, Mable 8th grade students will be transported to the Preparatory Academy by bus from Mable and will be guided by Prep Student Ambassadors as they experience first-hand what it's like to be a Husky both in and out of the classroom. Faculty, counselors, administrators and coaches will be on hand to welcome the Mable 8th grade class. This event takes place during the Prep's annual Spirit Week, which includes "spirited" activities leading up to the Homecoming game on Friday, November 5th.
This year the overlying theme for Spirit Week is the "Happiest Homecoming on Earth!" Everyone is encouraged to dress according to the day's theme which centers on a unique Disney attraction. On November 2nd, the day that Mable students visit, the theme is "Peter Pan's Flight," and students may dress up as Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, a pirate, or their favorite Neverland character! Lunch will be provided, and students will participate in fun lunchtime activities before returning to the Mable campus at 12:30 pm.
Mable parents are invited to attend our Peer-to-Peer Day Parent Hour which takes place in the Prep Library from 9:00 - 10:00 am. There, parents will be served a continental breakfast and hear from Headmaster Mr. Mendoza, Counselors, Prep parents, students and administrators.
Peer-to-Peer Day Parent Hour is a great event for those who were not able to attend the Prep's Information Night. Please RSVP to Sylvanda Edwards, Admissions Counselor at the Prep at sedwards@fairmontschools.com. |
