Hello Keepers of the Kindlich Kit,
It was great seeing so many of you at the first CVIM meeting. We had a great turnout and I look forward to working together this year to provide a wonderful musical experience for the Instrumental Music Students at CVHS.
One of the important issues we discussed was creative and various ways to support the music program such as Vons eScrip and Ralphs Rewards, the car wash on September 22nd, our CVIM support campaign and other upcoming events. On our website, we have an easy form which you can download, print and take to Ralphs for them to scan, which will automatically choose "CVIM Fund" as your Ralphs Rewards Community Contribution selection. If you shop at Ralphs, please go to www.falconmusic.org and click "CVIM" to download the form. You can even ask family and friends to use the Ralphs form and scanbar code to benefit the CVHS Music Department. We truly depend on support from parents and the community to help provide a positive musical experience for our students. Vons eScrip and Ralphs Rewards Community Contribution Programs are a wonderful way to support the music program by simply shopping for your family. [For additional information or help with either the Ralphs or Vons programs, check out the "Fundraising" section below.] Thank you in advance for signing up!
We have a few new developments for the New York trip. We need a few more students to go on the trip. Please read the "Spring Trip" section below for details.
As always, our website, www.falconmusic.org has calendar information and other resources for parents and students.
Musically Yours,
Mathew Schick

General Class News |
Have you purchased your ASB Card yet?
If not, please consider purchasing an ASB card. It's only $35.00 and helps the entire school, plus it gives students discounts to dances, sporting events, and other on-campus events.
The Music Department could earn an additional $2,000 from ASB if we raise our membership to 60%. Currently, out of Marching Band and Jazz Band, we only have 13 students who have joined ASB. Due to low ASB membership this year, ASB has reduced the budgets to many groups, including Instrumental Music. We are receiving $2,000 less than last year.
Please help out and join ASB. You can order your cards at school in the student store, or online at: Join ASB
Once you get to the website, click "General" under "Products" and you will see the option to purchase an ASB Card.
Thank you!

Marching Band |
Last Friday, the Band went to San Marino for the first time and, even though the Football game did not come out in our favor, we enjoyed seeing the San Marino Band suit-up and perform their half-time show.
This week we have spent many hours polishing up the first three songs of our field show. On Monday, we finished learning the new sets to "I See You" and every day this week we've been reviewing, analyzing, and building our "Pride" as a band in order to put on a great performance this Friday Night at the La Canada Game.
~~~~~~~
This Friday, September 14, the Band will play as the CV football team takes on La Canada High School at Glendale High School's field.
Event: Home Football Game vs. La Canada High School Location: Moyse Field -- Glendale High School, 1440 East Broadway, Glendale, CA 91205
Call Time: 4:30pm .... (Equipment Crew, Water Crew, Support Crew - 4:00pm)
Start Time: 7:00pm End Time: 10:00pm @ at CVHS. Students are encouraged to call home once the bus is in La Crescenta.
Dress: Students will dress into their Marching Band Uniform at school. Students must bring their show t-shirt, gloves, black marching shoes, black socks and comfortable clothes (loose shorts, NO JEANS) to wear underneath their uniform.
Misc: We will meet at CV, take attendance and travel by bus to Glendale High School. We will play pep songs in the stands... and our half-time field show! Students will be fed a 3rd quarter snack and have the option of purchasing items at the food shack.
Wind Ensemble
We are currently focusing on intonation and tuning. Breath control and support of air is essential to establish good tone and intonation.
Next week Wednesday, 9/19: Scale Quiz on D Major and b minor
|
Symphony and String Orchestra |
String Orchestra
We started going over rhythm fundamentals this week. Students are clapping quarter notes and quarter rests to gain an understanding of beats and time.
Wednesday, 9/19: Scale Quiz on D Major and b minor
~~~~~~~
Symphony Orchestra
This week, we've looked at "Russlan and Ludmilla" as well as looking at every movement of Beethoven's 6th Symphony. I want to remind the woodwind players that they have vastly exposed parts and that practicing daily at home is the only way to ensure accuracy of rhythm, notes, and tone.
Wednesday, 9/19: Scale Quiz on D Major and b minor
