Students fare very well on College Board's Advanced Placement Exam
Last year students at Medina High School had the opportunity to take an Advanced Placement English Language and Composition class. The class taught by language arts teacher Scott Quade focuses on the analysis of language and compositional development, specifically within the realm of persuasive and expository writing, and serves as a preparation for the College Board's Advanced Placement Exam in May. The scores for last year's class have been released, and those scores rank Medina students at the top.
Nationally, the percentage of AP students who earned a 5 (the highest grade on the exam) was 11%. Medina High School students faired much better, with 25% of the AP students earning a 5. Nationally, the average score was a 3, the average score for Medina High School students was a 4. The College Board considers a score of 3 or better to be successful, and 96% of Medina High School students earned at least a 3. Quade stated "I am hopeful that we will see similar results this year and am further encouraged by the nearly doubled enrollment in the class. Perhaps we are seeing the entry of yet another example of excellence in education at Medina High School." |
