School year begins with administrative changes
Parents and students will find some new faces at their schools beginning this school year. Julie Burke who served as principal of Heritage Elementary School for the past two years will be serving as interim principal at Waite Elementary School until mid-fall while principal, Cindy Grice is on maternity leave. She will then move on to Claggett Middle School and serve as interim associate principal while associate principal, Shannon Federinko is on maternity leave. "This is a win-win situation for the district" stated Mrs. Burke, "Everyone in the district is looking for ways to save the district money and I am glad that I am able to do whatever I can to help." Mrs. Burke's willingness to take a reduced contract in order to help save the district money not only saves the district money, but it ensures that the district maintains expertise and experience in key leadership positions across the district.
Due to other reductions in the district, Carol Starrick previously the Intervention and Title Services Coordinator for the Department of Instruction will serve as the principal of Heritage Elementary School. The services that Starrick previously provided to the students of the district will be absorbed by the remaining staff within the department. Serving as a principal is not new for Mrs. Starrick. She previously served as the principal at Canavan Elementary school for 9 years. Prior to serving as a principal she taught first and second grade and was a gifted and talented teacher. Mrs. Starrick has a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration/Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Akron and is currently an Assistant Lecturer at the university. "I am thrilled to become the new principal of Heritage Elementary. I have always had the most respect for the students, the families, and the staff at Heritage. I am anxiously looking forward to meeting everyone and then working hard to continue the great tradition that is Heritage's - always with the goal of maximizing everyone's potential," stated Starrick.
