  • Extractives: Approved funding for protocol technical editing support.
  • Code Revision Process:  Reviewed process and submissions.
  • Membership Meeting: Reviewed an updated draft agenda for the Winter Membership Meeting.

Code Review Process: Deadline to File Objections is Jan. 27

The deadline to vote on proposed changes to the EICC Code of Conduct was January 9, 2012.  The results of the vote were distributed to primary contacts on January 11.  Objections must be filed in writing by January 27.

Full Members may initiate re-votes on specific proposals according to the following process:

1. 20% Requirement: Objections must be submitted in writing to Erin at ehussey@eicc.info, and must be supported by a minimum of 8 (20%) Full Members.

2. Limited Scope: Objections can only be accepted for specific proposals. Qualified objections will result in a new "yes/no" ballot to reconsider the specific proposal (i.e., no new proposals or modifications can be accepted.)

3. Adoption of Objections: A 2/3 majority is required to overturn a prior vote.

Updated Code Review Timeline:

  • Jan. 9: Vote deadline.
  • Jan. 11: Results communicated to members.
  • Jan. 27: Deadline to submit objections.
  • Feb. 2: Qualified objections distributed to members.
  • Feb. 6: Ballots for re-votes distributed (if necessary).
  • Feb. 13: Deadline to submit re-vote ballots.
  • Feb. 15: Re-vote results communicated to members.

2012 Membership Compliance Program: Proposed Changes

Changes to improve the EICC Membership Compliance Program have been proposed. The changes reflect member feedback and lessons learned from executing the program since it was approved in 2010. The major proposed changes include:

  • Reporting: Report twice per year instead of quarterly.  A progress-only report would be due in July, and a final report would be due in January 2013.
  • Audits: Reduce number of audits on high-risk member facilitates from 50% to 25%.
  • Audit Type: Audits accepted to meet annual audit requirements include the Validated Audit Process (VAP), EICC Auditee Managed Audit (AMA), and EICC Customer Managed Audit (EICC CMA).

EICC Full Members will be able to vote on the changes as follows:

  • Jan. 31: Proposed changes sent to members
  • Jan. 31-Feb. 17: Membership Vote
  • Feb. 9: Webinar for members
  • Feb. 14: Update at membership meeting
  • Feb. 17: Voting closes at 5 PM (PST)

Roundtable with makeITFair and Good Electronics: May 9-10

In 2009, EICC members participated in a roundtable discussion on supply chain issues by makeITfair and the GoodElectronics Network. The groups will host a follow-up session May 9-10 in Amsterdam.

The objective of the session is to find common ground between the electronics industry and civil society organizations on strategies to improve labor conditions in the global electronics supply chain.  Social and environmental responsibility (SER) policies will also be discussed, as well as practices and recent initiatives by the industry.

Participation is available to interested companies, including suppliers, civil society organizations, and EU policy makers.  Space is limited, so register by March 30.  Contact Pauline Overeem at GoodElectronics for a program, registration form, and additional information.  Contact Wendy Dittmer for information about participation by the EICC.
