The Board met with work group leaders this week and took the following action:

  • EICC-ON: Reviewed a presentation on including non-VAP items in the EICC-ON tool.
  • Extractives Work Group: Reviewed a proposal to restructure the work group.
  • L&CB Work Group: Reviewed updates on new Health & Safety and Worker Communication initiatives.
corruptionAnti-Corruption Work Group Webinars: New Registration Links 

 

The Anti-Corruption Task Force will schedule webinars by legal experts in July to improve awareness of anti-corruption issues, and to explain preparations suppliers should make.  The proposed dates for the webinars are July 19 and 20, with a session at 7:30 AM PST for those in the U.S. and a session at 6:00 PM PST for those in Asia.  EICC Members are encouraged to participate, and to invite suppliers.  

 

Representatives from legal/compliance departments are especially encouraged to attend.  Click here to register for the webinar at 7:30 AM PST on July 19.  Click here to register for the webinar at 6:00 PM PST on July 20.  In order to track attendance, register again even if you previously did.  Contact Ben Bruno with questions.

changesChanges to the VAP

 

The following changes have been made to improve the Validated Audit Process (VAP):

  • Easier way to invite your suppliers into the VAP: Complete and send this form to your supplier and copy the Audit Program Manager (APM).
  • The entire process is managed by one organization rather than two. New contact for the Audit Program Manager: audits@vectra-intl.com.
  • Invoicing and collection handled by the EICC administrator. Contact Carrie Hoffman.
  • Easier contracting process.
  • APM fee has been reduced by US $200 per audit.
  • All VAP audits are tracked and posted weekly on EICC Member SharePoint here.

Additional improvements are coming.  Contact the APM for assistance.

The deadline for Full Members to submit Q2 2011 data was June 30. If you are late, please submit your data immediately.  Access the Data Collection Sheet, Compliance Program Overview, FAQ, and SAQ here.

educationEducation Session on China's EPC Program 

 

The Environmental Sustainability Work Group hosted a session on financial incentives associated with China's Environmental Performance Contracting (EPC) system.  The session was presented in English via conference call on July 6 (a Mandarin session may be scheduled in the future).

slaverySlavery and Human Trafficking Training Survey

 

EICC is researching training options for the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act.  Click here to complete a survey and indicate your interest in the training options. The options include:

  • Option 1:  In-person half-day class. (EICC will cover cost of training and members are responsible for their travel costs).
  • Option 2:  30 Minute web-based class with test for attendees. (No cost for members).
  • Option 3:  Discount coupon provided to members by trainer. Members coordinate their own training sessions. (Members cover cost of training).

There is also a free ILO training that can be accessed here.

Ma_JunESWG: Ma Jun Stakeholder Engagement 

 

The Environmental Sustainability Work Group hosted a briefing on July 5 to prepare for the Ma Jun Stakeholder Engagement, which will take place in Shenzhen on July 28 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Asia time.  Click here to register for the Ma Jun Stakeholder Engagement.

shenzhenMembership Meeting: Last Chance to Register!

 

Register early for the EICC Summer Membership Meeting in Shenzhen, China.  The last day to register is Wednesday, July 20.  Work groups will meet on July 25, and general sessions will be held July 26-27.  The meeting will include a review of current programs and a preview of the 2012 budget.  Other important topics will include:

  • 2012 Code review process.
  • Key initiatives relating to Code Conformance, Conflict Minerals, and Working Hours.
  • Presentations on the new EICC-ON system, and on other EICC tools and programs.

Sponsors Needed: A networking reception will be provided for all EICC members on July 26.  Receptions are typically sponsored by member companies.  Please consider sponsoring this reception if your company has not previously sponsored an EICC event.  Contact Carrie Hoffman for more information.

The EICC Freely Chosen Employment Task Force (formerly Slavery and Human Trafficking) will host a roundtable meeting on July 25 during the Summer Membership Meeting in Shenzhen, China at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.  The meeting will cover the following topics:

  • Overview of California law SB 657
  • Proposed task force deliverables

One topic for discussion: What indicators should we add to the VAP to identify slavery and human trafficking in the supply chain?

VAP_TFVAP Task Force

 

The VAP Work Group is exploring options to expand the scope of the VAP to include service providers.  A meeting will be held at 11:00 AM EST on July 20, 2011 to kick off the discussion, which may lead to the creation of a task force.  Members interested in joining the task force are encouraged to join the meeting.

auditorEICC/GeSI Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor Course

 

Verité has announced upcoming sessions of the EICC-GeSI Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor Course, including classes in Bangkok (July 18-22), Barcelona (August 1-5) and Sao Paulo (August 8-12).  The course helps participants learn to perform EICC-GeSI Labor & Ethics VAP audits successfully and fulfills the training requirement for IRCA certification as an EICC-GeSI Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor.  The highly interactive five-day workshop covers social systems auditing, investigative skills, management systems, validation and reporting, and the EICC-GeSI Audit Process.

  • Register your company administrator here.  Administrators will be responsible for setting up their company users, deactivating users, adding subsidiaries, and SAQ submissions.  Training will be provided.
