Board Activity
The Board took the following actions today. Information about the process will be presented at the Membership Meeting. A new time line follows:
- Membership Compliance Program: Reviewed status of reports.
- EICC Code Review: Voted to revise the timeline for the Code review process. The new timeline follows:
- Feedback submission: August-October 2011
- Review, evaluation, and decision: November 2011-January 2012
- Code revision: February-April 2012

ESWG: Ma Jun Stakeholder Engagement
The Environmental Sustainability Work Group will host a briefing call on July 5 at 4:30 PM EST to prepare for the Ma Jun Stakeholder Engagement, which will take place in Shenzhen on July 28 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM Asia time. Asia Program Notes and Survey
The Asia Program hosted an in-person meeting on May 30 for Asia-based EICC participants, and hosted a follow-up conference call on June 17. Notes from the meetings are provided here. Click here to access the meeting presentation.
A survey for Asia participants is provided here. All Asia-based representatives are encouraged to complete the survey (5-10 minutes) by June 30. The survey will help members indicate their interests in EICC work groups, indicate preferred meeting times and locations for Asia Program meetings, and express preferences on a number of other issues.

Education Session on China's EPC Program: July 6
The Environmental Sustainability Work Group will host a session on financial incentives associated with China's Environmental Performance Contracting (EPC) system. The session will be presented in English via conference call on July 6, 2011 at 8 PM EST (a Mandarin session may be scheduled in the future).
The EPC is an energy conservation initiative in China to facilitate the government's campaign for a cleaner environment and sustainable growth. The initiative provides tax incentives for participants. Jean Ngan Li of KPMG (bio provided here) in Shenzhen will present the following information:
- Overview of China's new 5-Year Plan
- EPC Overview
- EPC financial subsidies and tax incentives
- Tax implications

Anti-Corruption Work Group Webinars
The Anti-Corruption Work Group will schedule webinars led by legal experts from Deloitte & Touche and Morgan Lewis in July to improve awareness of anti-corruption issues, and to explain preparations suppliers should make. The proposed dates for the webinars are July 19 and 20, with a session at 8:00 AM PST for those in the U.S. and a session at 6:00 PM PST for those in Asia. EICC Members are encouraged to participate, and to invite suppliers. Representatives from legal/compliance departments are especially encouraged to attend. Contact Ben Bruno to register. |
Membership Meeting: Register Now!
Register early for the EICC Summer Membership Meeting in Shenzhen, China. Work groups will meet on July 25, and general sessions will be held July 26-27. The meeting will include a review of current programs and a preview of the 2012 budget. Other important topics will include:
- 2012 Code review process.
- Key initiatives relating to Code Conformance, Conflict Minerals, and Working Hours.
- Presentations on the new EICC-ON system, and on other EICC tools and programs.
Sponsors Needed: A networking reception will be provided for all EICC members on July 26. Receptions are typically sponsored by member companies. Please consider sponsoring this reception if your company has not previously sponsored an EICC event. Contact Carrie Hoffman for more information.

EICC Update on Human Trafficking
The EICC Freely Chosen Employment Task Force (formerly Slavery and Human Trafficking) will host a roundtable meeting on July 25 during the Summer Membership Meeting in Shenzhen, China at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The meeting will cover the following topics:
- Overview of California law SB 657
- Proposed task force deliverables

VAP Task Force
The VAP Work Group is exploring options to expand the scope of the VAP to include service providers. A meeting will be held at 11:00 AM EST on July 20, 2011 to kick off the discussion, which may lead to the creation of a task force. Members interested in joining the task force are encouraged to join the meeting.

EICC/GeSI Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor Course
Verité has announced upcoming sessions of the EICC-GeSI Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor Course, including classes in Bangkok (July 18-22), Barcelona (August 1-5) and Sao Paulo (August 8-12). The course helps participants learn to perform EICC-GeSI Labor & Ethics VAP audits successfully and fulfills the training requirement for IRCA certification as an EICC-GeSI Labor & Ethics Lead Auditor. The highly interactive five-day workshop covers social systems auditing, investigative skills, management systems, validation and reporting, and the EICC-GeSI Audit Process.
