Board Activity
The Board took the following action this week:
- New Work Group: Approved the request from the Anti-Corruption Task Force to become a Work Group.
|
Join the Anti-Corruption Work Group
The new EICC Anti-Corruption Work Group is looking for members to help develop due diligence solutions for EICC members relating to the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the new U.K Bribery Act. The work group will focus on due diligence questions to be included in the RA1 and RA2, and on proposed enhancements to the EICC Code of Conduct.
U.S. and U.K. regulators are reviewing practices by companies to manage their risks under the laws as they relate to third parties who perform services for the companies and interact with the government.
The work group will schedule webinars by legal experts in June to improve awareness of anti-corruption issues and explain preparations suppliers should make. EICC Members are encouraged to participate, and to invite suppliers. Representatives from legal/compliance departments are especially encouraged to attend.
Contact Ben Bruno with your name, email account, company, and title to join the work group or attend a webinar.

A login will be created to provide access to system training for each administrator. The training will be provided prior to the system production date. Training details will be provided after all Administrators are identified.

Announcing the EICC Quality Guidelines
Members are encouraged to review the newly released EICC Quality Guidance Document. The document provides an overview of the steps EICC takes to ensure that a Validated Audit Report has the best possible consistency and quality. From qualification of audit firms to quality review of the validated audit reports, quality is a key component of VAP execution. The document is intended to make the quality of the VAP transparent. It is available to EICC members and audit firms, and will be available to the public on the EICC website beginning in June. To receive more information about quality assurance provided through the VAP, please register to attend one of two upcoming webinars on the topic. The first webinar will be held on May 12th at 11:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time. Click here to register.
There will be a second webinar held on May 19th at 2:00 PM China Standard Time. Click here to register for the second webinar. |
Membership Logos
New logos are available for companies to identify their level of membership in the EICC. A logo is also available for Authorized Service Providers (e.g., certified audit firms). The logos and use guidelines are available here. EICC companies are requested to transition their use of the main EICC logo to the member-specific one (Full Member or Applicant Member). Companies are encouraged to use the membership logo specific to their membership status in reports and on company websites. All members should become familiar with the logos and their appropriate uses.

Task Force Members Needed to Focus on Slavery and Human Trafficking Law
EICC is establishing a task force to address the California Transparency Supply Chains Act of 2010. The law will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2012. It requires all retailers and manufacturers that conduct business in California to take the following actions if they produce annual sales of $100 million or more:
- Evaluate and address the risks of human trafficking and slavery in product supply chains.
- Require direct suppliers to certify that materials in company products comply with laws in the countries in which they are doing business.
- Conduct audits of suppliers.
- Maintain accountability standards.
The task force will develop recommendations and a tool kit to help member companies respond to the law. Contact Ben Bruno to join the task force. |
Conflict Minerals Supply Chain Workshop in June
The Extractives Work Group will host the next supply chain workshop on June 20-21 in Washington DC. All stakeholders, including NGOs, representatives from other industries, and government representatives are invited to participate. A small fee will be charged to cover the cost of the meeting. EICC and GeSI members may send one employee for no charge. The meeting will include:
- Report on the situation "on the ground" from NGO representatives.
- Update on current international and regional due diligence initiatives from government representatives and other stakeholders.
- Review of the CFS Program and discussion of successes, gaps, and actions needed to validate and support acceptable due diligence for tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold.
- Panel discussion on iTSCi and other in-region sourcing initiatives.
- Panel discussion on gold protocol development and supply chain characteristics.
An official invitation with a detailed agenda will be sent soon. Contact Grant Feichtinger for more information. |
Final Opportunity to Help Develop Key EICC Initiatives
Three work groups are completing plans on key initiatives that will be presented next month to senior executives of EICC member companies. Contact Brad Cameron this week if you want to participate in the process.
The initiatives include:
- Code Conformance: Accelerating the pace at which EICC members are able to conform to the EICC Code of Conduct.
- Environment: Reducing impacts relating to carbon emissions and water.
- Overtime: Improving member conformance to the EICC Code limits on overtime.
The plans will be presented in May to guide EICC activities through 2013. |
E-TASC Data Migration
An FAQ was sent to primary representatives to answer questions about the new Enablon system and data migration from E-TASC. The FAQ is available here.
All companies are encouraged to take action before subscriptions to E-TASC expire. Current E-TASC SAQ data will not be migrated to the new system.
Suppliers that accept an invitation to register with Enablon will be able to save their current SAQs for reference. The Enablon system will have a new SAQ with new questions that support audit activities and the new Services SAQ. Additional details on loading current SAQ questionnaires in the new system will be provided at a later date. Contact Grant Feichtinger with questions.
