Extractives Update: Full Implementation of Tin/Tantalum Tagging Expected in March 2011
ITRI and TIC recently announced that the target date for full implementation of the iTSCi tagging system for tin and tantalum will be March 31, 2011. They stated that cassiterite and tantalum minerals from central Africa that are not tagged will no longer be acceptable to the international tin or tantalum markets after that date as a result of "conflict minerals" legislation enacted in the U.S.
The new law applies to minerals produced in all provinces of the DRC, as well as those mined in adjoining countries such as Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda. The ITRI/TIC media release can be reviewed here. |
