DueDue Diligence Data Collection Tool

US egislation on conflict minerals was enacted in July. The law applies to all companies publicly traded in the US, and requires the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish new disclosure requirements for companies by April 2011. Details of the due diligence requirements in the law are not yet available.

Several EICC and GeSI member companies are conducting due diligence activities with their suppliers in anticipation of the new rule. This has resulted in "survey fatigue" throughout the supply chain due to multiple requests for data.

The Extractives Work Group is developing a streamlined, common reporting tool. The work group has proposed a moratorium on individual data requests related to conflict minerals until the common tool is completed. The proposed moratorium does not apply to information need to schedule smelter audits.

Contact Grant Feichtinger for more information.
