HSPilotHealth & Safety Trainig Pilot

The Learning & Capability Building Work Group announces completion of the Health & Safety Training Course. The first of two pilot courses has been scheduled and will take place on November 19 at PEGATRON Shanghai. An invitation letter that you can use to send to your suppliers can be found here.

The invitation can be sent with your company's logo and branding. All members are encouraged to invite their suppliers to the pilot training and to submit feedback afterward.  Availability is limited to 100 attendees (one person per supplier).  Companies will have access to the materials to deploy to suppliers after feedback is obtained. Contact Grant Feichtinger if you have any questions about the training.

DueDue Diligence Data Collection Tool

US Legislation on Conflict Minerals  was enacted into law in July. The law applies to all companies publicly traded in the US, and requires the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish new disclosure requirements for companies by April 2011. Details of the due diligence requirements in the law are not yet available.

Several EICC and GeSI member companies are conducting due diligence activities with their suppliers in anticipation of the new rule. This has resulted in "survey fatigue" throughout the supply chain due to multiple requests for data.

The Extractives Work Group is developing a streamlined, common reporting tool. The extractives group has proposed a moratorium on individual data requests related to conflict minerals until the common tool is completed. The proposed moratorium does not apply to information need to schedule smelter audits.

DRCStakeholder Report on the Democratic Republic of Congo

MakeITfair published Voices from the Inside: Local Views on Mining Reform in Eastern DR Congo. The report highlights initiatives for the region that are in development. It also provides viewpoints of local stakeholders on the initiatives. EICC and GeSI provided a response to the report upon request of the authors. Click here to access the report.  Click here to see the response.
VAPVAP Program Update

The VAP single payer model is now fully functional. Companies wishing to schedule an audit should direct their suppliers to the EICC Auditee Document webpage.  All of the documents needed to schedule an audit can be found on the page.  The webpage also contains overview information about the VAP program.

Audit reports that are released after a VAP audit can be identified by a watermark and serial number that is assigned to each VAP audit report.  Any company that is unsure whether an audit report is from the VAP can also contact the Audit Program Manager for verification
