The Employee Health & Welfare Task Force is developing initiatives to address the welfare of employees in China who are part of the electronics industry supply chain. The planning process will conclude in Q4 2010, and will incorporate information presented by regional experts at the recent EICC membership meeting. All EICC members who are interested in the project are encouraged to participate in the process, which will include:

  • Planning Calls--join our weekly conference call to contribute your views.
  • On-Site Meeting--attend a meeting in Shenzhen on October 14 to complete our root cause analysis and identify factors the industry can affect.

KPIKey Performance Indicators and Incentives Benchmarking Survey

The L&CB Work Group is developing a guide for EICC members to encourage improvements in supplier CSR performance. The guide will provide information about incentives to improve performance, and key indicators to measure performance and the impact on business.

Part of the process includes a survey of EICC members on incentives and performance indicators currently in use with or by suppliers. The Work Group is seeking more survey responders in order to increase the quality of the data collected.

Please take 5 minutes to respond to the survey by close of business on Friday, Oct. 24. Click here to access the survey. Contact Jessica Davis Pluess for more information.

ConflictConflict Minerals: Update

The Extractives Work Group will host two meetings to provide updates on its work relating to "conflict minerals." The first meeting on October 28 in Paris will provide an update to stakeholders. The second meeting on November 16 in Washington, DC will provide updates and other information for representatives from the ICT supply chain, including:

  • A review of the first round of validation audits at tantalum smelters.

EHSHealth & Safety Training Course

The EICC Health & Safety Task Force is completing plans for a new training course for facility managers. The course will cover occupational health and safety elements of the EICC Code of Conduct, and will address the most common findings from validated audits.

The course will help managers at EICC facilities and supplier facilities make workplace health and safety improvements. A pilot of the training class will be held in early November in Shanghai, China, and will be open to 75 attendees. EICC and GeSI companies are asked to submit 5 suppliers to attend on a first-come-first-served basis. Invitations and registration details will be provided in subsequent Bulletins.
