EPARegister for Training Session: "How to Conduct an Energy Assessment at an Industrial Facility"

A short training session on energy management and conducting energy assessments will be offered on August 26 from 8 AM-12 Noon at the Crowne Plaza Shenzhen. The training will be in Mandarin.

Presentations will focus on the processes, procedures, and protocols of industrial energy assessments. This will include the concept of "industrial triage" when evaluating energy use and reduction, as well as "rules-of-thumb" and insights on how to move an energy project forward in the current industrial economic climate. The training will also cover some of the tools available on the Department of Energy website, as well as possible incentives in China for energy efficiency.

Click here for the bio of the instructor, Dr. ShyShenq Liou. EICC Members are encouraged to send two local representatives to the training. Register for the training here. Presentation slides in both Mandarin and English will be distributed by email to training registrants in advance, and will be available for download after the session.

PollutionChina Water Pollution Risk Assessment: Register to Participate!

Recent media and NGO reports have highlighted the impact of electronics suppliers on China's water quality. As a result, the Environmental Sustainability Workgroup and the Asia Program Environment Task Force are developing a program to focus on this issue. This will include a desk-top risk assessment of water pollution in EICC's China supply chains.

The assessment will be led by BSR through funding from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. All EICC members are encouraged to participate by providing lists of their Chinese suppliers to BSR for the database search and analysis (all information will be kept confidential and suppliers will not be contacted).

The assessment is intended to provide EICC members with a better understanding of wastewater issues in their supply chains, including:

  • A desk review of electronics supply chains and the sectors or processes that are most likely to create water management problems.
  • Evaluation of levels of regulatory noncompliance by comparing EICC member suppliers to an NGO database of known polluters.
  • Best practices, and relevant industry standards and initiatives.

Preliminary results of the research will be presented at the EICC meeting in Shenzhen.

Contact Laura Ediger at BSR for more information.

AHWEmployee Health & Welfare Task Force: EICC Data Needed

The Employee Health & Welfare Task Force has established three subcommittees to complete preliminary reports before the Membership Meeting in Shenzhen. The subcommittees will obtain employee input through interviews, obtain baseline data through EICC member surveys, and obtain data on root-causes from outside experts. EICC members can contribute to this important initiative in three ways:

  • Join the Task Force--All companies with operations in China are encouraged to join.
  • Complete a Survey--Every company with operations in China is asked to participate (all data will be confidential and only used in aggregated form).
  • Allow Employee Interviews--The Task Force will engage a third-party to obtain input from employees through confidential interviews.

EICC companies with China operations will be contacted to complete a survey and allow employee interviews. Contact Brad Cameron for more information.
