boardBoard Activity

The Board took the following action this week:

  • Membership Meeting: Approved the agenda for the Aug. 23-26 Membership Meeting in Shenzhen.
  • VAP: Reviewed RFQ for GeSI VAP Benchmark project.
  • Holiday Schedule: Cancelled the July 6 Board call to accommodate holiday schedules.

eLearningEmployee Health & Welfare Task Force: Update

The EICC Employee Health & Welfare Task Force was formed to help EICC members develop a better understanding of the factors that affect employee welfare in China. The Task Force presently includes 15 representatives from 10 companies.

  • Time Line: The Task Force will proceed in two phases. Phase 1 will focus on findings, and will include a presentation of preliminary findings to EICC members at the Aug. 23-26 Membership Meeting. Phase 2 will focus on development of recommendations for EICC members to improve employee health and welfare.
  • Subcommittees: The Task Force has formed three subcommittees to focus on key activities.
    • Employee Views Subcommittee: Will develop a methodology to collect input from employees and managers, and will identify qualified personnel to conduct the interviews.
    • Expert Panel Subcommittee: Will identify experts outside the industry who can offer input and help develop a "root cause" analysis for EICC.
    • Industry Panel Subcommittee: Will identify experts in EICC companies who can help develop an industry survey of employment conditions in China, and will review how the conditions align with the EICC Code of Conduct and EICC membership requirements.
  • Meetings: The Task Force meets weekly. Contact Brad Cameron if you would like to participate in a meeting to offer input or obtain updates.

VAPAnnouncing New VAP Single Payer and Audit Request Process

The VAP Work Group has created an auditee documents webpage linked from the Tools page on the EICC website. Suppliers and members can use the documents to request and prepare for an audit. The following documents are available on the site:

  • VAP Introduction

  • Audit Preparation for Auditees
  • Self Assessment Questionnaire
  • Agreement for the Exchange of Confidential Information (AECI)
  • Auditee Purchase Agreement
  • Attachment A - VAP Facility Information Sheet

The VAP Work Group has also scheduled two overview webinars for companies using the VAP. The webinars will be held at 10:00am and 10:00pm EDT on July 22. Registration links for the webinars will be provided in next week's Bulletin.

CarbonCarbon Reporting System; Report Released

EICC has released "A Practical Approach to Greening the Electronics Supply Chain." The report provides findings from EICC efforts to increase transparency and focus on emissions reduction in the electronics industry. Suppliers provided data on their 2008 GHG emissions, energy consumption, and carbon management practices. EICC will develop a plan to increase member participation in the Carbon Reporting System in 2010.

Voting Process
  1. June 11: Distribution of ballot materials (includes documents with marked changes since May 7th distribution).
  2. July 9: Full Members vote on the Membership Compliance Definition, Version 3. Voting options include Yes, No, or Abstain (if voting "no" or "abstain" please provide your comments in the textbox provided). Please remember that each company may cast only one vote. All votes must be cast by 5 PM EST on Friday, July 9, 2010.
  3. July 9: Membership votes submitted electronically. AMS collates and confirms the results.
  4. July 16: Voting results communicated to members. (Can members object to a vote outcome? Yes, if 20% of members object to the outcome in writing, a second vote will take place. Objections must be received within 5 business days of original vote.)
  5. July 23: Objections filed with AMS.
  6. July 29: Objections distributed to members (4 business days after filed).
  7. Aug 12: Revote (10 business days after objections distributed to membership).
  8. Aug 14: Revote outcome communicated (2 days after revote).
