Message from Intel's Craig Brown: Help Fund the Conflict Mineral Tracking Pilot
EICC members are working through the EICC Extractives Work Group to eliminate "conflict" minerals from the electronics industry supply chain. At Intel, we have met with stakeholder groups to understand their concerns, sent letters on the issue to over 100 suppliers, and visited five Tantalum smelters to understand their material flows. Other companies are managing similar efforts to help eliminate the problem of conflict minerals. While these efforts cost money, we have a tremendous opportunity to show leadership on this important issue.
The best way for electronics companies to make a difference right now is to contribute $10,000 or more to the ITRI mineral tracking pilot program. Intel will commit $30,000 to the effort immediately. We encourage all EICC companies to contribute quickly so we can get this critical initiative underway. More information about the pilot is provided here.
Contact me at 480-554-2819 if you need help communicating the urgency of this initiative to your management. Thank you in advance for your contributions! Craig C. Brown,
VP, Technology Manufacturing Group
Director, Materials
Intel Corporation
