Contributions Needed: Extractives "Call to Action"
The Extractives Work Group issued a "call to action" at the Jan. 27 membership meeting. The action requests that all members help fund a "Conflict-Free Sourcing" pilot program that will be run by ITRI (the Tin industry association). The pilot is a mineral tracking program in the DRC to identify mines of origin for minerals in the electronics industry supply chain. ITRI has secured significant funding from the World Bank to help establish the program, pending a successful industry-sponsored pilot.
Each member is asked to contribute at least $10,000 for the pilot (companies may make larger donations if desired). Funding commitments are due by Feb. 15. Payments are due by March 1. More information is provided here. Questions should be directed to Bob Leet.
