Board Actions This Week
The Board took the following actions this week:
- Voted to approve an application for membership from Oce, N.V. The Netherlands-based company will be represented in EICC by Ilona Leussink.
- Closed the nomination process to prepare for the Board election. Four nominees will stand for election to fill four new Board seats. The election will begin June 4 and end June 11 (see information below).
- Obtained an update on status of the E-TASC revisions, including an overview from Laurie Howard, the IT consultant brought in to manage the project. The next step will be to define milestones for Achilles (the E-TASC vendor) that will allow EICC to measure development of E-TASC version 1.5. On a parallel track, a process has begun to define needs for version 2.0.

Deadline Change for Validated Audit Process
Deadlines for the VAP 2009 China cycle are delayed by one week. This is to allow for execution of the EICC non-disclosure agreement and audit purchase base agreements. The new deadlines are:

June 9: Sign and return the EICC non-disclosure agreement and audit purchase base agreement (including any comments) to phylmar@eicc.info.

June 12: Submit your budget and the audit sites according to the instructions by using the template posted here. Send your submissions to audits@eicc.info.

Get Involved in the New EICC Membership Program
EICC is working to recruit five new members in 2009. We need help from every current member to reach this goal. There are two ways to contribute:

Stakeholder Engagement Training
The Communications/Stakeholders Work Group will host a BSR led training about when and how to engage with stakeholders. The training will take place at 11:00am EDT next Wednesday, June 10. Update on "Conflict Minerals" IssuesEICC hosted a conference call on June 3 to update EICC members on the "conflict minerals" legislation in Congress. S. 891 would require companies to disclose the sources of metals in their products to the SEC. The call included presentations by members of the Extractives Work Group, and by the Consumer Electronic Association (CEA). The work group is directing a research project on this issue, and CEA is part of the lobby effort in Washington, DC for the industry. View a summary of the call here. EICC Code of Conduct Updates
Three important updates relating to the EICC code of conduct:

The EICC code has been updated. The revised code will be available in the next Bulletin.

Code Translations: The code has been translated from English to Chinese, Russian, and Japanese. Thanks to these companies for also providing translations to Spanish (HP), Korean (Samsung), Italian and French (ST), and Portuguese and Vietnamese (Jabil).

Code Comparisons: Numerous codes of conduct are in circulation to guide corporate social responsibility practices. The Code Management Work Group completed a comparison of the EICC code of conduct to codes of other organizations. The comparison is available here. For more information, contact Eric Austerman. |
