Festive Gifts!
Over the years Why Waste has become a source of valuable resources for all kinds of community groups. This has included office furniture, redundant computers, clean scrap for play, wood/card offcuts and containers. So if you think a redundant item will be of any use to a community group please get in touch and we can give it a second life.
Last week Bradford based company, Robinson Group donated 30 surplus office chairs to Newlands Community Association via Why Waste
We currently have groups looking for unwanted festive displays and decorations so spare a thought in January!
Eco-fair 2012
Why Waste and partners in crime BBEF and Green Business Network are busy organising next year's eco-fair. We are pleased to announce that eco-fair 2012 will be held at Leeds United's venue at Elland Road in Leeds on 1st May 2012 - so make a note in your 2012 diarys. This business focussed event will be free for delegates and will feature an exhibition of up to 100 green service providers, 40 free briefings and a "Space of Waste" interactive waste exchange zone.
We are keen to hear from local green service providers in the fields of waste management, energy efficiency, renewables and green buildings.who are interested in exhibiting at the event. Event sponsorship opportunities are also available. see www.eco-fair.co.uk for further details.
Businesses edge closer to Zero Waste to landfill thanks to new"Super" Recycling facility in Leeds
On 4th November the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP officially opened Associated Waste Management's new recycling facility at Gelderd Road, Leeds. This state of the art facility can handle up to 200,000 tonnes per year of commercial and domestic waste. New sorting technology has boosted the companies recycling figure up to 95% with remaining waste being used to generate energy.
Pioneering new carpet waste recycling service launched by 4Recycling Ltd
Yorkshire based waste management company 4 Recycling have recently launched a recycling service for old wool and synthetic carpets as well as the offcuts left over from installation. Material is palletised and bulked up back at the retailer for collection. Customers receive a guarantee that carpets are recycled and not landfilled
