Improving Treatment of Tuberculosis in Kalenda, DRC Tuberculosis (TB) is a leading cause of death in Democratic Republic of the Congo, in part, because of a lack of access to diagnosis and treatment for those suffering from the disease. In the health area of Kalenda in Kasaï Oriental province there are only two TB care and treatment centers for a population of more than 195,000 people. Read More.

MSH has worked in nearly a dozen fragile states including Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, and South Sudan. We have found these to be among the most difficult countries in which we work. At the same time, working in them can be the most satisfying and produce the most impact.

Health needs are invariably the greatest in fragile states. After years of suffering, the people deserve health services as a basic human right. And rebuilding in post-conflict or recovery states offers the greatest potential for creating a sustainable local health system, says MSH President Dr. Jonathan Quick.
