Farming as a craft can never be old-fashioned or supersededs since it is dependent upon doing things in the right way and at the right time and not in the wrong way and the fastest time. - J.F. Massingham

Dear Friends,

Sugarbaby watermelon?  Yep, we've been waiting almost 90 days for these babies to ripen up and I need to tell you it's an art, not a science as to when they ripen.  We think we've done a pretty good job, but, it's possible for some to slip by that either aren't quite ripe or slightly over-ripe.  If you're not happy with yours, please let us know and we'll replace next delivery as these take the place of two fruit selections.

I had a bunch of bananas last week that turned over ripe on me and it was still too warm to heat the oven.  I found a recipe on the internet for Crock Pot Banana Nut Bread and it was so easy and fairly quick,  wanted to share it with you.  Since I had a nice jar of our Fig Preserves (on the Green Store under Honey and Jams), decided to experiment.  Turned out moist and delicious and shared it with our watercolor class Tuesday morning.

1/3 c butter                                                 3 over ripe mashed bananas

2/3 c sugar or substitute                        1 3/4 c flour (I used whole wheat)

2 beaten eggs                                              2 t baking powder

2 T fig preserves                                         1/2 t baking soda

1/2 t salt                                                         2/3 c chopped walnuts

Butter and flour the pot of the slow cooker.  Cream butter, add eggs, jam and beat smooth.  Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture with walnuts.  Cook on high heat for 2 1/2 hours.

Here's a note from a shareholder: "Just wanted to let you know I ordered one of the Coconut Aloe Juice last week and couldn't believe how delicious it was.  Thank you so much for suggesting it.  May we have 4 more for next delivery?"
