To me, the garden is a doorway to other worlds; one of them, of course, is the world of birds.  The garden is their dinner table, bursting with bugs and worms and succulent berries. - Anne RaverSpring lettuces

Dear Friends,

Whew..talk about a rough week in the heat!  Irrigation blasting, damn the bill, everyone seeking relief with just a few minutes in the sun, fans on high.  Only one other year do I remember these temperatures..back in 1989, the second year of farming.  We only had a 1/2" water line coming up the hill (I'd set my alarm clock to get up usually twice during the night to change drip system stations) and lost my entire tomato crop because couldn't get enough water to them.  I used to joke that I was going to change the name to ShoeString Farm until someone pointed out we didn't even have those!  So, got through the week with minimal damage and am so grateful for getting back to 'normal'.  80degrees never looked so good.

Our 'Making Stilton Cheese' class went well Saturday in spite of the heat.  The guests were real troopers.  We held our 'Farmer's Market' afterwards in the walk in cooler!

I loved the quote for the week.  The air space at Seabreeze is filled with a myriad of life forms that most visitors aren't even aware of.  Some good, some not so good for the plants.  We'd have an occasional Monarch or Swallowtail butterfly and always wanted more so last year did about a 100 cuttings of milkweed for the Monarchs and you should see the population now!  Scores of them fill the air around us and we're going to be starting many more cuttings this week.  Since people love them, we'll be doing a class the last Saturday of this month, the 29th, from 1 to 3 here at the farm and should have a delightful time.  Hope you can make it.  Click on the Meetup below and come join us.

If any one needs cooking tips, please remember we now have Julie on board (we're trading deliveries for cooking and recipe support) and she'll be happy to help you.  Her blog is posted on our website or you may reach her and view her recipes here: http://nourishcommunity.com/blog/
