Regular size CSA items: Haas avocado (2), pink grapefruit,  Valencia oranges, bananas,  summer squash or cucumbers or beans or tomatoes,  scallions,  lettuce , salad, sprouts, carrots or bok choi or Swiss chard, eggplant, Italian parsley, shallots, Anaheim peppers and bouquet of flowers. 

 Substitutions may occur.      

  

Dear Friends,

 

Never a Labor Day goes by when I don't remember selling vegetables on the streets of San Diego at the farmer's markets on the Saturday before and well intended customers would ask "What are your plans for Labor Day?"  If there ever was a reminder that most people have no idea what it takes to run a farm, that was would be it.  Picnic, manicure, family and friends get together, a little rest?  O what a sense of humor.  My first concern on this day is my long suffering work force..holidays or weather show no mercy. 

 

So this is a short and sweet note to let you know what will be in your delivery this week.  Kendall and I are headed back out to the gardens to help harvest and hopeful the men can leave a few hours earlier to be with their families.  Kendall and I will pick up the rest of the undone chores and look forward to watching the sun net knowing we'll feed our 'families' well, one more time.

 

Well, except I have to tell you what was for dinner last night..quick and easy Eggplant Parmegain.  Just about everyone should know how to make this..the main trick is to peel the eggplant, slice into 1/4" slices, dip in beaten egg and then breadcrumbs and
