Democracy is fine in politics.  It should stay there, and we need more of it.  But its political virtue is no reason to practice it in the garden. - Allen Lacy

Dear Friends,

So many of you sent emails last week after reading the newsletter and I appreciate so much the support and the suggestions.  I sort of promised a cheerier note today so will just say the situation is continuing to be critical with the dang beetles and frankly, we're just going to get through it and wait for cooler weather.  We ploughed under beds of lettuce, arugula, broccoli and salad.  It's another example of the human being trying to force Mother Nature to our will.  Sometimes we win, sometimes we don't.

Fake and inferior olive oil continues to make the news.  We offer organic, California family farm virgin olive oil from Oils of Paicines and it's all I use in the kitchen.  Not for cooking, it's too delicious for that (only use Omega Coconut Oil), we dribble it on all kinds of dishes.  Remember the Mediterranean diet calls for 1/4 cup of good olive oil per day!  Fake Olive Oil..  Link to the Green Store Oil of Paicines

Although this recipe means turning the stove on, this is a great way to use zucchini's and yams or potatoes.  Sheer comfort food:  Zucchini Pancakes

Just about everyone now is aware of the drought and rising food prices.  Here's an article on something perhaps you haven't thought of:  Anchovies and Cows?

Julie's last blog is very good, highlighting her reluctance to turn on her stove!  Good recipes and suggestions.  If any one needs cooking tips, please remember we now have Julie on board (we're trading deliveries for cooking and recipe support) and she'll be happy to help you.  Her blog is posted on our website or you may reach her and view her recipes here: http://nourishcommunity.com/blog/
