Dear Friends,

You'd think it was spring time with all the new babies cropping up here at the farm.  First, we have 3 new baby Frizzle chicks, courtesy of our new rooster, King Tut.  They're old enough now to go out of the pen with their two mommas to watch over them and scratch and hunt for bugs.  Adorable.  But the big population explosion is from our butterflies!  Last year we planted scores of milk weed and let a bunch of the fennel go to seed and lo and behold, the Monarchs and the Anise Swallowtails found them, laid eggs, and now walking through just about any of the gardens, one can see and admire the beautiful and healthy butterflies gracefully flittering here and there.    We'll be offering a class next month on how people can attract and help these gorgeous creatures to thrive in your garden and neighborhood.

Our two sets of mozzarella cheese classes with Virginia Masters were a great success on Saturday.  It was hot, especially with the bread oven going full blast, but we managed to stay cool in the shade and a nice ocean breeze.  Many were here for the first time and expressed amazement that such a place could exist in the city.  What is hard for them to realize, is that we were here first, and the city built up around us.  It's funny, when I first found this place, many years ago, it was just pure instinct that told me an agricultural zoning would be important.  How little did I know what the future held!

Here's an excellent article on what foods are naturally alkaline..something very important in our diets.  Many many of them we include in your deliveries every week...like sprouts!

I remembered this week to click Spell Check..thank you to those that gently reminded me to use it (I type too fast!).

If any one needs cooking suggestions, please remember we now have Julie on board (we're trading deliveries for cooking and recipe support) and she'll be happy to help you.  Her blog is posted on our website or you may reach her and view her recipes here: http://nourishcommunity.com/blog/
