You eat and think differently when you have a garden.  You have different expectations.  One way and another, a garden is in your thoughts every day, what you are going to do in it or take from it.  There is no ignoring it.  A garden demands its share of time and attention; it helps shape the economy of our lives. - William Longgood

Dear Friends,

From experience, I know people have nostalgic and somewhat set mental and visual expectations of what a 'farm' is supposed to be and look like, and that includes the 'farmer'.  I got over being incredulous a long time ago.  I've had people say things like where are the cows and the red barn, where are your overalls?, aren't you subsidized by the government?, and could you dispose of this for me (car trash)?  Most visitors however, are curious, polite and if aware, in awe of the botanical wonders, the complexity and the work involved when the truly look around.  A farm is more than the plants and animals.  A true working farm is about the people.

I was moved by the number of people that emailed after Jim's (one of our drivers) wife had to go to the hospital (she's fine now) when we emailed that deliveries might be late.  Thank you to all of you..the sentiments were passed along.  Now, Don Spangler, the man that roasts our fresh coffee beans has had a heart attack (he too will be fine) and his wife, Celeste, was so worried in spite of this, that we wouldn't get our fresh coffee on time for deliveries! She just brought over 10#'s of wonderful freshly roasted beans and the office smells heavenly.  Please be reminded that the average age of farmers and those in the related businesses are over 60 and still dedicated to quality foods.  Won't you support them by making us your coffee providers?  Our prices are very reasonable and the taste and quality outstanding.  It's easy to add to your order: Don's Freshly Roasted Coffee

The potatoes this week are back by popular demand.  We've also included dill, red onions and celery.  Cries out for a classic summer potato salad.  And making your own mayo is so easy..it's even better with our Oil of Paicines organic California family produced olive oil...Award Winning California Olive Oil

If the cucumbers are adding up in your refrigerator, it's so easy to turn into pickles just by putting  in the refrigerator.  Here are some guidelines:  Refrigerator pickles with dill.  And the best apple cider vinegar is from Bragg's:  Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar

This coming Saturday, we'll be having classes on how to make your own pesto with our aromatic Genovese basil...Pesto making with Genovese Basil..Hope to see you then..

If any one needs cooking suggestions, please remember we now have Julie on board (we're trading deliveries for cooking and recipe support) and she'll be happy to help you.  Her blog is posted on our website or you may reach her and view her recipes here: http://nourishcommunity.com/blog/
