It is pure unadulterated country life.  They get up early because they have so much to do and go to bed early because they have so little to think about. - Oscar WildeHealthy food

Dear Friends,

Before I start in, let me first thank our loyal, committed and understanding shareholders.  Some of you have been with this farm for 20 years!  We wouldn't be in business if it wasn't for you and many send thoughtful notes of support.

However, I do ask that everyone re-read the simple, one page Customer Agreement everyone has to sign to subscribe.  It's vacation time (and this will happen again in November and December) and we've been deluged with last minute request to 'postpone' deliveries for their vacations with several people most upset with us. Even cancellations. We have a couple of active military families that are most appreciative of receiving donated bags.  Again, we take no 'vacations' or 'time off' and simply cannot run the business with such a drop in income.  Please make prior arrangements to either 'sell' your deliveries to a friend or family, give it to them, or donate to well deserving families.  We all here will be working and delivering this 4th of July and we do wish you a happy celebration.

We received our most recent water bill last week.  Our sacrifice and dedication to water saving was successful...we had reduced our consumption by almost 25%.  Our bill however, was almost $1,500. --many many times what it was just a few years ago. And as you know, the SD Water Authority will be raising our rate by another almost 10% for next year and who knows after that.   There's no way the price of vegetables can keep up with that.

So, being the nimble garden fairies that we are, we're going to press forward with other enterprises for supporting the land...therefore the classes, special events, and our new emphasis on weddings.  We are having a wedding here Saturday for a charming young couple and are looking forward to the happy event.  If you know of anyone looking for a private, secure and lovely place to get married for a reasonable amount, please keep us in mind.

It's Squash season again and some of you will be receiving big ones!  Not to panic, they're very edible and here is a link with many recipes to choose from: Summer Squash Recipes

If any one needs cooking suggestions, please remember we now have Julie on board (we're trading deliveries for cooking and recipe support) and she'll be happy to help you.  Her blog is posted on our website or you may reach her and view her recipes here: http://nourishcommunity.com/blog/

Please keep your notes and comments coming.  I read them all.

Enjoy in good health.
