I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure in the landscape-the loneliness of it- the dead feeling of winter.  Something waits beneath it- the whole story doesn't show.                       -Andrew Wyeth

Regular size CSA items:  Valencia oranges, pink lady apples, Satsuma tangerines, Myer lemons, dates, Bacon avocados, heirloom tomatoes, cabbage, radishes or turnips, cilantro or parsley or basil, scallions, collards, purple or Yukon potatoes, mixed peppers, lettuce, sprouts, salad,  and bouquet of flowers.  Substitutions may occur.

Dear Friends,  If you haven't had a chance to glance to the east to see our lovely Cuyamaca mountains blanketed in snow, I suggest you take the time and look.  San Diego county has such beauty - from the ocean to low woodlands, mountains, desert, streams and lakes.  We are truely blessed.

Reed avocado season is over and Bacon's are in.  They're a little thinner skinned than the Reed or Haas and a little less oil however, they are avocados and the majority of shareholders have always said "keep the avo's coming".  Let us know if this isn't still true.  The first of the tangerines are in, Valencia orange season is about over.  We'll be switching to Navels when they're ready.  The reviews of the tomatoes have been very positive although I've heard some of you question the shape.  Yep, they can be strange, however the flavor is terrific and you just may have to slice a little differently not to waste any.

Collards are jam packed with vitamins, minerals and anti-toxicants.  A member of the broccoli family, they also carry the anti-carcenogentic traits.  Collards are not bitter, easy to cook and delicious.  If you're not familiar, please don't turn up your nose or be intimidated by the large leaves.  Rinse, cut away stems (save - they just need a few more minutes to cook) and slice the leaves.  I like mine cooked in about 15 minutes, not the southern way of boiling them for two hours.  I mean, what's the point?  They can be added to quiches, soups, stews, casseroles or as a side dish, soups, stews, casseroles and quiches.

It's not too late to order items from our Green Store including gift bags for nice presents.

May you all enjoy this winter season.  In other words, Happy Holidays to all..

Enjoy in good health.
