January Executive Summary

DEVOTION

Whose Plan am I following? (PR 19:21)

This month's devotional 'sets the table' for the business and ministry segments by reminding us of the fundamental importance of God's wisdom, commands, and purpose as we provide leadership and 'make plans.' Once we're saved, why does the Lord leave us here for a season, and how is His plan reflected in our plans? God isn't against us making plans, but He is quite specific regarding how, and toward what end, we should plan. Success on the world's terms, apart from the will of the Lord and our greater purpose in business, has little eternal value and is exactly what the enemy wants us to settle for.

Working 'on' my BUSINESS
Standing in the Gap in Business

Most CEOs fail to realize their dreams for the business because they keep their heads down and continue to do what they've always done. Few small-to-midsized business CEOs do a solid job of casting vision and engaging their team in on-going strategic planning with accountability for executing the plan. This results in an absence of key metrics and objective performance tracking. We must overcome our own inertia (habits, comfort and self-justification) to objectively find the gaps and attack them diligently as stewards of the opportunities the Lord has provided. It takes leadership vision and commitment to identify and address such gaps on an on-going basis, often requiring the CEO to help others see the "burning platform" and their roles as gatekeepers in specific areas. This segment, the first in a two-month series, discusses both between comparative benchmarking and building a culture of continuous improvement that\ focuses on reaching for what's theoretically possible. Next month we'll look at specific steps to take in developing a strategy and closing the gap.

Working 'on' my MINISTRY in God's Business
Standing in the Gap in Our Ministry & Walk

Once we 'get' it, that our business and the on-going servant leadership opportunities it provides is our principal God-given ministry, we must be purposeful in pursuing it. Just as with the business dimension, we have a gap in our performance versus our God-given potential in the ministry dimension as well. This segment provides an opportunity to evaluate our passion, relationships, margin, and discipline in pursuing this worthy call. Scripture is clear that trustworthy leaders 'stand in the gap' - as servant leaders and conduits of God's grace to a needy people. Christian CEOs have a critical role to play as stewards and ambassadors of Christ for the resources and people God has entrusted to them.
