Sumner is "pulling out all the stalks" this weekend for a bigger and better tradition with the Art & Rhubarb Pie Festival. Here are a few of the highlights...
Join in Rhubarb's Pet Parade
Bring your pet to Sumner before the parade passes by, literally! Rhubarb, the Tacoma Rainier's mascot, will be leading a pet parade through Sumner on Saturday, August 4, at 9 am. Metro Animal Services is hosting this parade. It's free to participate, but we ask you to register in order to receive special goodies and the chance to win prizes for best Art Costume and best Rhubarb Costume. Avoid the lines that morning by signing up for free at www.metroanimalservices.orgor at or Sumner Veterinary Hospital. See you at the parade!
From YOUR Attic: Exploring Sumner's Heritage
Items like this burned crate label help tell Sumner's story. What's in your attic?
Help us rediscover Sumner's rhubarb heritage! In the past few years, items such as old crate labels have surfaced from local attics and barns that speak to our rhubarb history. On Saturday, August 4, bring your own items and stories--about rhubarb or just Sumner in general--to share and help fill in the legacy of Sumner. We will take a picture of your item and return it back to you. Part of a pilot program with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.

New additions include Rhu-Putt-Putt with Sumner Meadows, Live Woodcarving, the Rhubarb Barrel House with microbrews (including a rhubarb brew) and a street dance that will light up the night thanks to PSE. Doug Clerget from the Bachelorette will also be here to celebrate his own Sumner rhubarb roots. Find more festival information on their website at www.sumnerfestival.com.
