Routine Lahar Siren Tests Begin Monday
This coming Monday, November 1, is the first routine test of the lahar sirens, including the two in Sumner.  The test will be at noon and last for approximately one minute.

These audible tests will be conducted the first Monday of every month at noon.  They routinely make sure every aspect of the siren works and also help us recognize what the siren sounds like.  If we ever hear it at a different time than noon on a first Monday, we can quickly realize that we need to pay attention to other emergency notices like weather radios and bulletins from Pierce County Alert!
Monday's Meeting Covers Lots of Ground

As usual, the agenda for the upcoming City Council meeting is on the website.  While each topic on every agenda is important, this Monday's meeting covers quite a few issues including the 2011-2012 Budget, the Communications Center, and the public hearing for the proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendments that include the Orton Junction project.

If you'd like more information, you can view the agenda online.  There are also other areas of the website to help you prepare including more about the Orton Junction project and the Preliminary 2011-2012 Budget

Have a Safe Halloween

Halloween 2009

Enjoy a safe and happy Halloween.

If you're out Trick or Treating, be sure to stop by the Street of Treats on Main Street on Halloween, 5-7 pm.

Sumner Police will be there with glow bracelets.  Not only are the bracelets just plain fun to wear, but they help drivers spot young ghosts and goblins as they walk around Sumner's neighborhoods in the dark.
Does This Winter Mean Snow & High Water?

The National Weather Service reports that this is a La Niņa year, which means a colder, wetter winter with a historically higher possibility of lowland snow.

Flooding is dependant on a number of factors, but they are suggesting that the probability of flooding in both the Puyallup and White Rivers will be higher during this weather cycle.

In preparation for the winter weather, we recommend that you take some time to check your household's emergency plans.  Read More

Ever see a yellow Notice sign around town and not get the chance to read it fully?  Public notices are also posted online, which may be an easier (and drier) option for keeping up to date on the latest public notices.
