Reviewing the Proposed Orton Junction's Impacts |
Before people comment on the proposed UGA amendment and/or Orton Junction, they often ask how it will affect Sumner and the current area. What about traffic? What about water quality? How will it affect existing businesses?
The answers are all available for you to view. It's called a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), and believe it or not, it's over 1000 pages of answering just such questions! Rather than be alarmed at the size, take a look. It's available in hard copy to browse at City Hall or at the Sumner Pierce County Library. It's also available online, divided by chapters, so you can quickly get to the parts that primarily interest you.
The document is called "Draft" because this is the stage when you can not only look at it but also comment. Is something missing? Do you disagree or agree with the report's assessment? Send your comments to Ryan Windish, Planning Manager, AICP at Fax: 253-299-5539 or [email protected] or Ryan Windish, City of Sumner, 1104 Maple Street, Suite 250, Sumner WA 98390. Ryan must receive your comments by 5:00 pm on October 8 in order for them to be included for the final Environmental Impact Statement.

Businesses support Chief for a Day |
Nicci from Bank fo America presents Ethan with donations raised at the bank for his family. | On August 18, Sumner had a different police chief. Ethan Delarme, a student at Sumner Middle School, served as Sumner's Chief for a Day as part of a state-wide event through which law enforcement celebrates the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness.
The local business community joined forces with the Sumner Police Department to really honor and contribute to Ethan's family for a special day and special event. Thank you to the following businesses who contributed:
Bank of America in Sumner
Dillanos Coffee Roasters
Farrelli's Pizza
Starbucks in Sumner
Unified Grocers
Walmart in Bonney Lake |
Golf for Life raises $8,500 for American Cancer Society |
Once again, citizens and businesses gathered for the second annual Golf for Life tournament. In addition to simply having fun, you helped raise $8,500 for Relay for Life through the City of Sumner team--that's $1,000 more than last year! Thank you to everyone who had fun and contributed. Now, all that's left to do is start working on your putting for next year.

Public Notices |
Ever see a yellow Notice sign around town and not get the chance to read it fully? Public notices are also posted online, which may be an easier (and drier) option for keeping up to date on the latest public notices.
