| Lahar Siren Test |
On May 4 at 10 am, Pierce County is going to test Sumner's lahar sirens by conducting an audible test. You will hear the wail for a full minute. Mark your calendar, and know that when you hear it on May 4, don't "head for the hills" as it is a test.
The test gives you a good opportunity to make sure you're ready for the real thing. Do you have an emergency bag to grab as you evacuate? Do you know how to contact all your family?

| Do You Think Sumner is the Best? |
|
Do you think Sumner is the best tiny town in Western Washington? Help vote for Sumner on KING 5's Evening Magazine Best Northwest Escapes. Voting ends April 11. Last year, Sumner placed third behind Leavenworth and La Connor, so we have a bit of a title to defend here.

| How about the doggies in these "windows"? |
Bubula recently found his Forever Family through Metro Animal Services.
 | We've made it a lot easier for you to find a new dog or take care of your current pets with the new Metro Animal Services website.
The new site is much easier to use, offers features such as
So, come visit our dogs and cats often, just from your computer. Together, we'll make sure that all our pets are safe and happy. |
| Safely Walking to School |
Did your grandparents ever tell you that in their day, they walked to school ten miles to school uphill... both ways? Well, it just got easier for Sumner kids to walk to school, thanks to a Safe Routes to Schools grant that helped fill in some of the missing sidewalks along key routes.
Walking to school is exercise for kids (and possibly adults), reduces fuel use and encourages kids to talk with each other. You can all play a part too in helping kids walk safely.

| New Council TV Schedule |
Starting April 4, Sumner's Council meetings will air on Pierce County Television (PCTV) at 8 pm on Fridays and 8 am on Sundays. You can watch PCTV on cable (Channel 22 on Comcast) or online.
There are also some new options to watch when it's more convenient to you. You can watch past meetings online, and the latest meeting is now available through Comcast On Demand. |
| Public Notices |
Ever see a yellow Notice sign around town and not get the chance to read it fully? Public notices are also posted online, which may be an easier (and drier) option for keeping up to date on the latest public notices.

| Try Some Rhubarb |
Did you know that 23.6% of the acres on which rhubarb is grown nationally are here in Pierce County, around Sumner? No wonder we have the distinction of being the Rhubarb Pie Capital of the World.
So, grab a few stalks, visit the website www.rhubarbpiecapital.com and celebrate spring with a pie, cobbler, or one of the many recipes available here! | |
