Fall Clean Up Is Easy in Sumner

Sumner in FallIt's between summer trips and holiday parties--that time to work around your home and yard!  Here are a few ways you can get ahead with your cleaning.

First, the City of Sumner is once again teaming up with DM Disposal for Fall Clean Up, that week when you can get rid of extra trash, extra yard waste and even an appliance for free.  This year, Fall Clean Up will be November 2-6.  If you are a DM Disposal customer within the City of Sumner, you will receive coupons in the mail soon.

Second, just a reminder that as those leaves fall, whether you're using a rake or a blower, be sure to not use the street as your leaf disposal method.  While it may look like a tempting option, it clogs the sweeper and plugs up the storm drains, causing street flooding during fall's heavy rain storms. Use your yard waste bin for proper leaf disposal.

Third, if you're looking for ways to reduce your mail clutter, you can now ask for your utility bill to come as an e-mail and pay online.  Click here to look into signing up for this option. Click here to look into signing up for this option.

Otherwise, sit back and enjoy a nice, clean autumn in Sumner!
Found in Flushes

Speaking of utilities, there's a very important number every resident should have in the City of Sumner: the City's Shops number is 253-299-5740.  If you hear gurgling sounds or are having trouble with all of your drains not working properly, the sewer line may be getting clogged.  Before you call a plumber (or experience a full sewer backup), have the City check your sewer line to be sure.

There are also a few things you can do to help things move along smoothly.  Remember that the toilet is not a garbage can.  Do not flush things like cotton swabs, rags, diapers, kitty litter, latex gloves, hair or disposable toilet brushes.  We've even found things like wood and toys in the sewer lines!
Vote for Sumner's Pets

A simple click of your mouse button could help Sumner's dogs and cats.  There is currently a Web competition underway that the animal shelter that receives the most clicks goes into a drawing for a $1000, $3000 or even $5000 gift.

Any of those prizes would go a long way toward helping Metro Animal Shelter care for Sumner's lost and abandoned pets before they can find their Forever Families. So, a click a day keeps the tight budget at bay.

Welcome Sumner's New COPS Officer

Officer MillerRemember when Sumner received money from the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (part of the Federal stimulus package) to hire a new officer for four years?  That officer now has a face and name, and it's Officer Jeff Miller (shown greeting the Council at his swearing in).

Officer Miller has served many years in Bonney Lake and Black Diamond.  Sworn in on September 8, he commented on how important it was to him to serve in a community like Sumner.  So, if you see Officer Miller (hopefully not during a traffic stop), be sure to say hello and welcome him to Sumner.
