Host a party for safety! |
Did you know that in a typical two-week period, Sumner Police respond to 700 calls for service? Crime happens, even in Sumner. But, people here feel more safe because they're likely to have neighbors calling and helping when crime does occur.
One of your best tools against crime--and the fear of crime--is to know your neighbors and how to quickly contact them and the police. With the new, free Block Watch in a Box, Sumner Police are making it easy for you to host a block watch party.

City Closes for Needed Cost Savings |
It isn't news that the economy continues to struggle. However, it does continue to impact the City of Sumner's budget, with revenue consistently coming in lower than our most conservative forecasts. As part of a series of steps to curb expenses to match, the employees of Sumner and a majority of the City Council are taking unpaid furlough days.
On these days, city employees take a day off without pay and city facilites close (except required services such as police and the wastewater treatment facility). The estimated savings is $20,000 per day. Three of the City's unions have agreed to participate and members of the Police Guild are participating on an individual basis.
The first of these days off is July 6. There will be no Council Meeting, and City Hall, the Senior Center, and the Cemetery will be closed. (This is in addition to the regularly scheduled observance of Independence Day on July 3.)
If you need police assistance on this day, please ring the buzzer as you would after-hours or if it is an emergency, as always, call 911. The other three furlough days will be September 4, October 12 and December 31. |

Change a Dog's Life |
 DAISY'S STORY
Daisy was found wandering the streets with her puppies. When her owners rejected her, Metro Animal Services sheltered and cared for her. Our goal is to find every pet a Forever Family. Today, Daisy is in a loving home with a family she deserves--forever. (She also now loves to run on the beach!)
How can you help? Licensing your pet not only helps us return your pet if he or she gets lost but also provides critical funding for the Metro Animal Services, funding needed to help animals like Daisy. Let everyone know that you care for all dogs and cats with your current license.
Licenses are available online. Metro Animal Services will also have a booth at Puyallup's Meeker Days, Sumner's Mutts Off Main and Bonney Lake's Bark in the Park events. Stop by and say hello! |
