Plant Trees for Arbor Day
 Tree planting
Few things are as "green" as planting trees, and Sumner loves its trees.  Celebrate the month of Earth Day and Arbor Day by helping Sumner's Forestry Commission plant trees on Saturday, April 18.  If you're interested, call Gene McCaul at 253-863-1234
Did You Know...

What do you think are the oddest things we've found in the sewer system?

Answer: diapers, wood, pens, plastic bags, basketballs, jewelry, dentures.

(Hint: none of those should have been there!  Flushing items not made for the system causes major damage.)
Check Your "Green" Habits

Come on in orangeWhere do you wash your car?  Is the water running when you brush your teeth?  There are a few simple habits you can adopt to protect the quantity and quality of Sumner's water:
  • Pour grease in a can, not down the drain!
  • Fix drips.
  • Use low-flow options, especially for toilets and shower heads.
  • Water your yard at night.
  • Turn off water while you're brushing your teeth.
  • Install a drip irrigation system instead of sprinklers.
  • Call us to shut off your water at the meter. It's easy to break the meter and cause major damage.
  • Pick up after your pets and dispose in the garbage or toilet.
  • Wash your car on the lawn.
  • Don't overfertilize--use sparingly.
  • Fix your car's oil leaks.
Take a Musical Journey Through Time

Symphony
The Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra will fill Sumner's Performing Arts Center with a musical journey on April 17 at 7:30 pm.  The concert is free, thanks to the Sumner Arts Commission, and no tickets are required.  You can bring non-perishable food to be collected at the concert to share with the Sumner Food Bank.

Honoring Those Who Keep Us Safe

Animal ControlOn the week of April 12, the nation honors both communications officers and animal control officers.  Telecommunicators come to work every day (and night) ready to answer the phone and help you in your emergencies when you dial 911.  They are the your link to the help you need and the police officers' link to each other and the information they need to help you.  Animal Control Officers care for helpless animals that have been rescued from injury, disease, and starvation.  They help you when your pets are missing or other animals are threatening the safety of you and your pets.

Thank you to these Sumner employees who help us when we or our pets are in trouble!
